Marigoldpaw and Mousepaw's Assessment

"Marigoldpaw, Mousepaw, time to get up! We have an assessment to do!" Thrushstar said after poking his head into the apprentice's den.

Marigoldpaw jumped up. She ran to Thrushstar.

The apprentice perked her head up, leaping up and bristling at the sudden voice.

OOC: Shortness

After seeing that both apprentices were up, Thrushstar turned around and walked out of the camp, expecting the two to follow. Tonight was going to be a long night. "Alright, it's time for your assessments," he said once they reached the middle of the territory. "As you can see, the moon is just now rising. You have until dawn to catch as much prey as you can within our territory. Passing will be determined on the quality of your hunting just as much as your quantity, so do your best. I will be watching. However, feel free to go anywhere in the territory. I will let you know when your time is up. Go."

OOC: I was thinking each cat could catch about three pieces of prey. Do you guys just want to do one large post with all three catches to speed up the assessment and get to the ceremonies quicker or do y'all want to do each catch separately to stretch it out a bit? Either way, just remember that there should be at least one miss or two when hunting. No one is perfect~

IC: The blind apprentice trotted after the ShadowClan leader, then gave a slow nod when given her task. Let's do... at least three pieces of prey! Mousepaw decided, running off to a random direction.

Sticking her muzzle into the misty, damp air, she scented nothing much more than a frog or two. Mousepaw crouched, trying to sneak up on a frog. It croaked, yet didn't notice the apprentice. She pounced, grabbing the frog in her jaws. She killed it with a simple killing bite, then dug a hole and threw the prey into it.

Doing the same, she tried to scent more prey.. Nothing. She padded on further, then tried to scent something again. She smelled a... starling. Those pesky little birds... She crept closer to the chirping starling. It smells like a hatchling! It might be eaiser to catch! Apparently, the starling was not a hatchling. It was a full grown one, and was not in the mood to die. It flew away, leaving Mousepaw empty-pawed.

She ran through more of ShadowClan's marshy land, mud clinging to her paws. Careless about the situation, she scented something... this time, another frog. The apprentice, blind she may be, crouched. She crept up to the strong smell of the wart-bag delicious frog, pouncing. The frog croaked loudly, causing Mousepaw to fall backwards. The frog jumped away, leaving Mousepaw no choice... to follow it. The frog was only two mouse-tail legnths away. She pounced, killing it with a simple nip of the neck. She dug another hole, and this time gently placed the prey into the hole.

Now, heading into the deeper area of ShadowClan's large territory, she scented again. Squirrel. Now, in her opinion, squirrels were annoying swift things that they called prey. She thought they were difficult to catch, but... This is my assesment for StarClan's sake! I have to try and catch a squirrel! She wanted to go against her thoughts, but instead crouched once more. She crouched. The squirrel seemed to be collecting nuts, and he was completely unaware of the apprentice's presence. She pounced onto the squirrel, hissing. The squirrel turned around, jumping up. That was the last moment of it's life.

Picking up her squirrel, she went to dig up the other holes. She gathered the frogs, then panted as she ran back to her mentor.

Marigoldpaw ran out and opened her mouth to sniff the air. There was a strong sent of squirrel. She dropped and pounced on the little creature, killing it with a nice bite.

She smelled again, this time it was frog she again dropped down when, the wind changed and the frog smelt her and hopped off.

She continued, opening her mouth. She looked at the floor for scuttle, as she saw a mouse she dropped and pounced. She buried her two peices of prey by a bush.

She walked on. As she came to the border of smyclan, she saw a rabbit having crossed. She dropped down but, the rabbit felt her and jumped off. She sighed.

She smelt for the last time, noticing more rabbit she thought to try again. She dropped, walking softly on her pads before biting in the neck.

She walked to where she had buried her prey and waited. She whispered, "Thank you, starclan for this prey."

As the sun began to shine over the horizon, Thrushstar finally went to find both apprentices. It didn't take too long. He'd already been watching over Mousepaw for most of it considering her disability, but much to his surprise, the she-cat did just fine. It was very relieving. After getting Mousepaw, the Shadowclan leader quickly found Marigoldpaw not too far away. "Congratulations, you two," he said with a little bit of pride in his voice. "You have done very well tonight. Both of you pass your assessments. Now, let's grab this prey and head back to camp, shall we?"
