Kits From Thunder

Salmonstripe nodded. "I found them on a patrol. And they are newborn, so I had to take care of them..."

Dewleaf looked at Mistfeather worriedly, Did she smell it too? The dark thought crept into her mind as she recalled when they found the kits they had a faint scent of Thunderclan.

Salmonstripe tensed, and nudged her kits closer, in case that Mistfeather would object the kits. The queen gently licked each kit, purring. As much as she didn't want to be rude to the deputy, she mewed, "I want to keep them..."

Dewleaf padded out of the nursery, Should we take them and ask Thunderclan? Should we keep them? Her thoughts were racing with worry for the kits and Salmonstripe as well.

"There's no need for such aggression just yet," another voice said from behind Mistfeather. Fishstar entered the scene, lightly tapping the deputy on the shoulder with her tail-tip. She sat down before Salmonstripe and her adoptive kits. The tabby's expression betrayed nothing. Indeed, the kits held the scent of the forest. Undoubtedly ThunderClan. Fishstar glanced briefly down at them, and then settled her eyes on Salmonstripe. "How did you acquire these kits?"

Dewleaf stammered from the entrance, "A-A hawk dropped them near us when we were on patrol" She mewed as Salmonstripe had busied her self grooming the kits.

"I see no problem with raising orphaned kits. But what if they have parents who are missing them?" she mewed, her hostility subsiding. As much as she welcomed new clanmates, it would cause them a lot of trouble by blindly claiming them. "We should bring them to ThunderClan. If no queen comes forward and takes them back, it shouldn't be a problem for you to raise them," she suggested, turning to her sister for her approval.

Dewleaf gulped and gave a tiny nod, hoping no cat would claim them.

Raccoonkit cuddled close to to Salmonstripe, looking up at the two new cats with big eyes...she picked up from the conversation that one was the leader and one was the deputy. Raccoonkit didn't know what that meant, but she didn't care."I wanna stay with momma," she said as she motioned to the grey she-cat with her paw.

"Okay. And, I think we should discuss this topic at the gathering?" Salmonstripe suggested, purring sweetly to her adopted daughter.

"No," Fishstar immediately responded. "That's not something that needs to be discussed at a Gathering. There's already been enough conflict between ThunderClan and us at the last few Gatherings." She gestured to Mistfeather, her voice taking on a more stern tone. "But I do agree we should bring them back to ThunderClan to see if anyone's lost kits lately. I do hope you're telling the truth about how you found them, Salmonstripe. If what you say is genuine, you may keep the kits, but if not.. We may be on the brink of war once again." Fishstar rose to her paws and flicked her tail. "Mistfeather, take Salmonstripe and the kits to ThunderClan at once. I have other matters to attend to at the moment, but I trust you to deliver them there unhindered. Go straight to Spottedstar.. Though we can only hope that fool will listen to what you have to say." The RiverClan leader gave Salmonstripe one last, hard stare, and then made for her den.

Salmonstripe nodded. She quietly got up, and lifted her heavy body. She grabbed Swampkit and Racoonkit. I hope I can keep you... She thought. She flicked her tail, and swallowed worriedly.
