The sun shone bright as a ginger tabby tom padded swiftly through the forest, following the many paths trampled down by generations of Thunderclan cats whom lived in the forest even before Spottedstar was alive. Blazingheart stopped at an oddly formed, twisted tree and jumped onto it, sitting down and waiting. He had been asked by his son to train Sunpaw today, for Blazingheart was going to train Sweetpaw and Shrikepaw anyways. He had told the apprentices to try to keep up with him before he took off into the undergrowth. The cat wanted to see if they could follow his scent and paw steps. As a rustling came near-by, Blazingheart turned to see who was going to emerge first.

Sunpaw padded out of camp, excitement thrilling him. This was going to be his first training lesson. Though it was not his own mentor, Greenleaf, teaching him, it was still going to be as fun. Maybe Greenleaf could come and watch, and give him extra pointers.

Soon enough, he caught a whiff of ThunderClan scent. He strained all his senses to detect who it was, but, as he was only recently apprenticed and had no experience at all, he could not. He padded forward, trying to show this ThunderClan cat that he was a worthy apprentice by mimicking the other apprentices by stalking.

He emerged from a bramble bush and saw Blazingheart perched on a rather oddly-shaped tree. "Hello, Blazingheart!" Sunpaw called. "I knew there was a ThunderClan cat here, but I didn't know it was you," he admitted. "You said you were going to train me, but where are Sweetpaw and Shrikepaw? I thought they were training with us," he said, confused.

Sunpaw jumped up onto one of the tree's roots, and sat down right below Blazingheart. He looked up at the warrior.

Sweetpaw followed her mentor and grandfather, stopping when Blazingheart and Sunpaw came into view. She smiled, giving a little undetected bounce before moving on. "What are we going to do during training today?" she asked the two toms, tilting her head. "Battle moves?" she asked.

"I want to learn to kill a mouse or two. It's not like any clan would dare attack us after our victory with Riverclan." Shrikepaw meowed with certainty, following the scent trail left behind without too much difficulty. She, along with most kits, had to do this everyday to find their mother's milk. A scent trail was too easy.

Good, they were all able to find me. The tom waited until all the comments and questions were asked before saying; "You can never be certain weather someone is going to attack or not. Always be prepared and ready, for you can't read minds, Shrikepaw. I was thinking we should do some hunting today, then if we have time we could do some battle training if you guys want to." Blazingheart jumped off the tree. "Now, everyone, tell me what you smell. Any prey in the area? Any foxes or badgers? Rouges? Tell me everything." This was still part one of his "test"...their sense of smell. The scents around him came to the tom naturally, he could smell a stale fox, mouse-droppings, a thrush, a recent Thunderclan patrol, a stale hawk, and a chipmunk.

Sunpaw scented the air carefully. He was certain he wouldn't be able to scent everything, but he promised himself he would impress Blazingheart. After a few heartbeats, he mewed, "I can smell something foul that smells something like mouse, so I'm pretty sure it's mouse dung; literally, not the swear," he joked. "I can also smell bird, which I think is a thrush, ThunderClan, and chipmunk." He scented the air one last time, and finished, "I can also smell something that smells gross, and smells a bit like crowfood (OOC: fox),and another thing that smells like a bird, but has more of a windy scent to it, if you know what I mean. It smells more.... airy." By that he meant a hawk, but he did not yet know that.

Sunpaw looked up at Blazingheart, hoping he had gotten everything, or at least mostly, right.

Sweetpaw nodded when Sunpaw spoke up. She could scent everything that the other cats could scent, and she picked up a very faint trace of vole as well. "I smell everything Sunpaw smells, with trace of a vole." she answered in turn.

As Shrikepaw scented the air (sorry for controlling Shrikepaw in that manner, but I had to do it to make this post as I want it!), Sunpaw's thoughts drifted away. A picture of Cloverpaw swam into his mind, and he sighed inwardly with happiness. Cloverpaw was his closest friend in the Clan, and he longed to be with her right now. A special relationship was forming between them, and Sunpaw couldn't help thinking of her every once in a while.

Sunpaw shook his head to clear it of his thoughts, and paid attention to his Clanmates.
