Different but fun

Coalpaw was finally an apprentice but not just any apprentice she was training to be a medicine cat. Something she felt she was almost destined to be but she didn't know. She padded out of the den into the camp clearing smilung some flicking her tail. She sorta missed being in the nursery with her mother and siblings but she was fine with just visiting now too and ahe wasn't cramped. She smiled and sat out of the den before looking around before she heard pawsteps approach her.

"Coalkit, or should I say, Coalpaw, morning, sweetling." Duskfall called out to his kit as he approached, he licked her forehead affectionately. Ever since she'd left the nursery, it had been increasingly difficult to see his eldest daughter since she was busy training to be a Medicine Cat. He was proud of her, but somewhat sad he'd never get to fight alongside her. She had a path that he couldn't support her on, but he could at least teach her a few moves.

"I've asked Nightfire and it should be fine, would you like to do some battle training with me today?"

OOC: tell me if this isn't what you want, I thought of what they could do together and this came to mind.

Coalpaw blinked and she let out a slight purr before smiling"hi dad"she mewed smiling. She flicked her tail and smiled some"wait so you want to teach me some battle moves"She blinked flicking a dark ear before she smiled some"ok if Nightfire is fine with it"she mewed.

"Let's go to the Sandy Hollow, best to train there. Thunderclan needs her medicine cats healthy. Can't have you roughhousing on hard dirt." Duskfall meowed teasingly, he walked head through the entrance keeping his pace even so his daughter could keep up. When they reached the hollow, he turned to face her and asked. "So what do you know about battling?"

Coalpaw blinked and newed"hey"she said not liking the teasing a whole lot but smiled and followed after her father. She smiled and stopped looking at him"well...um i dont know anything"She mewed quietly somewhat bit embarrassed that she didnt know her ears laid flat against her head.

In hindsight, he realised he'd posed a rather silly question. Of course she knew nothing, she was a medicine cat apprentice, and she was young. While other apprentices learnt to fight, she was learning herbs. Though medicine cat's did learn fighting skills, she was probably not up to it.

"Well we can start with the basic pounce. I watch you to watch me carefully and try copying me." Duskfall settled into a crouch, tensing his front legs, he sprang off his hind legs onto a leaf. He turned to face his daughter afterwards to see her try.

Coalpaw watched quietly as he did before she attempted to copy the move. She started to crouch quietly tensing herself quietly before she leapt at a leaf nearby.

"Good, now show me how to swipe." Duskfall batted a leaf towards her to swipe out of the way, he planned on having a mock fight with her once she grasped the basics.

Coalpaw watched as her father batted a leaf towards her and she swiped it away from her somewhat awkwardly.

"With more strength, as if you're trying to slam it down." Duskfall tossed up another leaf and demonstrated the forceful swipe needed, claws unsheathed. Then he sheathed his claws and tossed her another leaf.

Coalpaw watched then nodded and as he tossed her another leaf she did as her father showed hrr and used more strength.

"Nice, Coalpaw!" Duskfall purred encouragingly at his kit, she was surprisingly good once she put her mind to it. But now he planned to test if she could do these attacks in a battle scenario. She might be a medicine cat apprentice, but fighting was inevitable, and Duskfall wanted to make sure she could handle herself.

"Now we try use this basic moves to fight, combine them and attack." Duskfall batted Coalpaw with a sheathed paw on her shoulder. He still used enough strength that she would be lightly bruised as learning to think and fight through pain was key. He didn't want his little she-kit to freeze up in surprise in a real battle.

Coalpaw blinked when he made a blow to her shoulder. She for a moment started to step back and she looked at her father. She then realized she needed to strike back and she stoped before using a sheathed paw batting him back. She didn't use as much strength as she could have.

"Don't freeze up, Coalpaw. And put your back into it!" His instructions were harsh but clear from having trained two apprentices. He wished his could always be there to protect her, but as that wasn't an option, he put everything into teaching her.

He repeated a similar move, but this time with more strength, and at the last minute unsheathed his claws so she felt them against her fur. He didn't pierce her skin, but let her feel just how devastating an actually attack would be in battle.

Coalpaw blinked and nodded quietly"o..okay"she mewed. Though when she felt her father's claws touch her fur she tensed up some blinking her icy blue eyes. She tried to remember what her father said about not freezing up but she  did and tried to pull herself out of it. She again swatted at her paw at Duskfall, her father, with a sheathed paw with as much strength she did when she struck the leaf.
