Storm Rising [Open]

Lightningstrike was lounging on a rock, warming his fur. His yellow eyes blinked open sleepily, and a content purr rose from his throat. However, the purr stopped abruptly when he realized that the clouds were a dark shade of gray. "Oh no!" he hissed. Rising to his paws, he shook his fur and stiffened as he felt a drop of rain hit his shoulder. He let out a low growl, and ran towards ThunderClan camp. A gorse bush was in his path, and he looked up at the clouds. A loud snarl ripped through the air, and a bolt of lightning flashed through the sky. It struck the tom, shaking him violently. A high-pitched, gurgling shriek pushed its way up his throat, and it echoed into the forest eerily. The lightning dropped him, and he forced his eyes open. "Featherpool....I love you....goodbye, ThunderClan..." he choked. Then it all went black.

FeatherPool was nearby when she heard LightningStrike's scream. "LightningStrike?!" She ran to where she heard the screaming. As she found LightningStrike's body she curled up to him and said. "LightningStrike. Wake up please."

Ghostpaw ran through the forest. "Mom?! Dad?!" he called frantically.

Dapplepelt heard screams and ran over to where he heard it. "L-lightningstrike?" He asked, his voice hoarse. Turning to Ghostpaw, he said, "I'm really sorry Ghostpaw... You shouldn't have to see this... And I'm very sorry, Featherpool." He dipped his head to the dead warrior.

Ghostpaw backed away, his eyes filled with terror. "No!" he choked, his voice breaking. He took a few cautious steps toward the dead warrior. "Dad!" the apprentice whispered, burying his nose in Lightningstrike's already chilling fur. Strangled sobs wracked his frame.

FeatherPool nuzzled GhostPaw and curled her tail around him. "He was a great cat GhostPaw. Strong and wise. He shouldn't have been taken like this."

Ghostpaw, momentarily forgetting that he wasn't a kit anymore, pressed up against his mother and mewled, grief-stricken.

Rainpaw heard Lightningstrike's howl of agony, and raced out of camp.
