RiverClan's Deputy

In truth, Sunstar had already known who was going to be the deputy almost instantly the whole 'You going to be leader' thing sunk in. So the hardest part was really announcing it. So the new leader trotted from his new den and clawed onto the ceremonial willow branch. After taking a deep breath and sighing, Sunstar let out the words he had called already so many times before. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather for a Clan meeting!" Now as he awaited for the Clan to gather, he looked Aldine the camp with his bright amber eyes to see a sight of any cat coming to the clearing.

There was silence from Ryefur as he padded from the den, his gaze flickering up to his new leader. It pained him not to see his grandfather standing there, but he knew that Sunstar would be a grand leader; she had been Reedstar's choice after all. As he sat down, he wrapped his tail around his paws as his gaze stayed on Sunstar. He wondered who the new deputy would be; there were many find choices to be had but he was sure Sunstar would make the right choice.

Lilystream heard the call from the new RiverClan leader, Sunstar. Yes, it was time for a new deputy, but who, worthy enough to be the leader's and the Clan's deputy, would be chosen to take on this important role? With the death of Reedstar, it pained the whole Clan to see his lifeless body, carried into the clearing and to be dealt with with the RiverClan cats- his RiverClan cats. Stepping out from the warriors' den, the sight of Sunstar broke the she-cat into sadness. The expectation of Reedstar to be sitting on that willow branch was no more. But, Reedstar served his Clan well as a leader, and it was time for another cat to take his role. Brushing away the sadness, Lilystream sat with the other cats, gazing curiously at Sunstar. She knew deeply, that Sunstar would make a fine leader, and that Reedstar had chosen well.

Mothpaw bounded out of the apprentices' den, excited for who the new leader, Sunstar, had chosen to become deputy of RiverClan. The she-cat didn't understand the pain others felt for the loss of their previous leader because Mothpaw hadn't been born before he joined StarClan, but all she understood was that Reedstar was her grandfather. The thought of this made Mothpaw so vain about that since she carries the blood of their previous leader, she would one day become a strong and powerful warrior, just like him (although a lot of cats in this Clan carries his blood XD). Finding Ryefur already there, the she-cat thought it would be best to sit next to her mentor. She felt proud being an apprentice, and to also have a strong mentor to learn from. "I wander who would be made deputy?"

Ryefur turned his gaze to his much younger sibling and apprentice. His tail swished as he paused for a few seconds. He sighed softly as he turned back to look at Sunstar with a soft shake of his head. "I...I am not sure who will be made deputy. There are so many fine choices in this Clan, but no matter what choice I am sure she will make the right one." There was a few moments of silence as he thought about a tale he had heard as a kit; a tale about one of Reedstar's deputy trying to kill him to take his place...He hoped there was no cats in the Clan that was like that; that Sunstar would pick a deputy that would remain loyal but he had no doubt she had what she was doing...But even Reedstar was fooled...No, he had trust in his Clanmates. No reason to think like that, whatever deputy Sunstar will pick will be grand deputy.

Poking her head out of the nursery, Cinderfur looked up at the branch that the new leader stood upon. It was so difficult to see Sunstar standing there, especially since the queen had seen Reedstar doing ceremonies for so long... this almost seemed wrong, but she knew that Reedstar had chosen Sunstar for a reason. It was just hard to accept. Silently making her way towards the gathering group, she sat down and waited for the news.

Fishpelt was among the last of the warriors to arrive. She had just returned from a solo hunting trip, and her leg muscles ached as she approached where Sunstar had beckoned the Clan. She sat down a little ways away from Ryefur and gazed upwards at the cat sitting above them all. She had to blink once or twice to do away with the confusion as to why he was there, but swiftly remembered that he was in charge, now. She encircled her paws with her tail. He's probably appointing a new deputy. It was high time, after all. Although he had only received his lives the night before, and he needed to appoint a successor as soon as possible. Fishpelt's eyes flitted to the other warriors situated around her. He's bound to pick someone older than me..

Streamheart walked over to the branch and saw Sunstar there. It was different, seeing him there, but after Reedstar died, Sunstar was now Riverclan's leader. She knew Reedstar made a great choice. Sunstar would definitely be a good leader now. Perhaps it is time to choose a deputy. Well, he definitely wouldn't choose her. She was just a Young warrior and had not yet had an apprentice.

Seeing the cats gather, the newly appointed Sunstar dipped his head to the warriors and apprentices that had gathered while he waited for one she-cat in particular. Once she arrived he took a deep breath, announcing the words in a loud voice, "RiverClan. As you all know, our beloved leader Reedstar had a dreadful accident a few days ago. Since then I have received my nine lives and am in need of a deputy now. I say these words before StarClan, so that the spirits of our warrior ancestors may hear and approve of my choice." The tom paused momentarily to almost confirm his choice one final time, then he finished.

"The new deputy of RiverClan is Fishpelt."

Fishpelt froze in her place, and slowly dragged her eyes up to her leader's elevated form. W.. What? The she-cat couldn't believe her ears. Admittedly, she had been a little intrigued in the position (what cat wasn't?), but she had not at all expected it to be her. There were plenty of able-bodied warriors in RiverClan, and many of them were more experienced that her.. Why pick Fishpelt? The tabby swallowed her disbelief and rose to her paws, her legs threatening to give out beneath her. She could feel the responsibility already weighing down on her shoulders. Before she opened her mouth, she wondered how she would handle all of her new duties. She would lead patrols now, create battle tactics, and all of the younger cats would be at her heels seeking guidance. The one thing that kept Fishpelt steady, however, was the thought that Sunstar trusted her enough for this position. If she was good enough for her leader, she was good enough for her Clan.

"Thank you, Sunstar. I'm honoured," she responded, still sounding a tad mystified. "I will do my best to keep RiverClan in line and support your every decision."
