Lilypaw's Warrior Ceremony

"All cats old enough to catch their own prey gather for a Clan meeting!" Reedstar yowled. Warm Greenleaf days had melted all his troubles away lately. Maybe the war is over, he thought to himself, watching their new soon-to-be warrior emerge from her den. No trouble had been stirred up since the last Gathering, as tense as it was. Maybe they've given up trying to beat us. Maybe I can spend my last days in peace. Peace seemed like a foreign concept to him in his old age, but all he wanted to do now was watch his Clan swell and grow tall around him.

Shallowlake trotted out into the clearing with a fish dangling out of his jaws. Today was perfect for hunting, an- Reedstar's call echoed through the clearing and broke through his thoughts. "I wonder what it is this time!" the warrior wondered aloud.

Lilypaw heard Reedstar's call. The she-cat stretched, then jolted out of the apprentices' den and gathered with her Clan in excitement. I wander what's on Reedstar's mind? she thought, as the thought of becoming a warrior had set in her mind. This could be my warrior ceremony! Lilypaw knew she was 12 moons old, but surely, she was ready to become a warrior?

"Lilypaw, step forward," Reedstar started when the Clan had gathered. "I, Reedstar, leader of RiverClan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. She has trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend her to you as a warrior in her turn. Lilypaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life?"

Lilypaw stepped forward, excitement surging through. I am finally going to be a warrior! Listening to Reedstar's words, Lilypaw calmly and confidently replied, "I do," despite the excitement she was feeling. The she-cat wanted to look serious for this ceremony, as she was becoming a warrior and she would show her best that she is loyal and will protect her Clan no matter what. I am ready.

Reedstar nodded, satisfied. "Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior name. Lilypaw, from this moment you will be known as Lilystream. StarClan honors your empathy and compassion, and we welcome you as a full warrior of RiverClan."

Lilystream let out a soft lick on Reedstar's shoulder, proud to finally become a warrior. Lilystream, she thought, realising that the name suits her. The she-cat knew and understood that Midnightsky, her mentor, had been a great cat, and she would walk in his paw-steps to become a great warrior. She felt grateful of Midnightsky, because without him, she doubted that she would be as great as him.

Shallowlake dipped his head to Lilystream and smiled. "Congratulations!" he meowed cheerfully.
