Jaypaw grunted in annoyance as the water soaked his paw, it was his first time out of camp and he wasnt expecting his nice fur to get lightly wet. Giving his pelt a quick shake Jaypaw looked around waiting for his mentor Thrushstar to catch up with them so he can teach him the basics of Battle training and hunting. He looked around for a dry spot to sit down, ear flicking In annoyance to see that there was no where but a large wet marsh. His ears flicked into a perk hearing a frogs loud croak. "There really is nothing here... No wonder we're so hungry all the time." Jaypaw muttered to himself quietly.

After the apprentice got a good look at the territory from the entrance, Thrushstar stretched before exiting his den and padding towards Jaypaw. He had a lot of training to do, and it was best to get started early. As he walked through the camp, the Shadowclan leader looked up at the sky to see the sun setting just on the horizon. Perfect. They had plenty of time to hunt and get some battle practice in. "Greetings, Jaypaw. Are you ready for training?" He asked, standing next to Jaypaw.

Jaypaw greeted his mentor with a flick with his tail and nodded "I'm excited to start my training Thrushstar." He meowed with a small smile, he was about to complete the first step to become a warrior and he wanted to do much as much learning in the time star clan would give them his ears flicked into a perk ready to listen intently to whatever his mentor had to say.

"Good," he responded before padding out of the camp and into the territory. He quickly made his way towards the burnt sycamore not really checking to see if Jaypaw was following. Instead, he expected the apprentice to stay with him and when they finally got there was the only time that Thrushstar checked to see if Jaypaw was still there. "Now we will start with battle training. Are you ready?"

OOC: do you know how to use the battle system or do I need to explain it??

Thrushstar then got into a defensive stance, staring straight at Jaypaw. This was the moment of truth. Hopefully Jaypaw would understand how to battle after this. "Come at me with whatever you've got," He said.

OOC: alright this is going to get long. Here on the site, we use a battle system which can be found in the Rules at the top of the home page. Once there, you click on the Battle System. This shows you what moves the system contains, how much stamina they use, and how much damage they deal to your opponent. And it's all conveniently placed in charts :D

So, to start off with, you can choose any move that your character is able to use (you check this in the column that says "Rank First Usable"). Since your character is an apprentice, he can use anything up to the move Tail Yank. This first chart only shows you how much stamina each move uses and if it has any special effects. Let's take Front Paw Strike for example. By looking in the row that the move is in, it tells you that this move uses 10 stamina. So whenever you use this move in a battle, you must subtract 10 from your total stamina (health and stamina for each rank can be found here.). Since an apprentice has 80 max stamina, after the move is used, an apprentice will only have 70 stamina left.

Now for the damage. Still looking at Front Paw Strike, we move on to the next chart on the page. This chart just looks like a bunch of numbers next to each move on the chart. This shows how much damage each rank does. (K*= kit, A**= Apprentice, NAW= Newly Appointed Warrior, etc.). So you will want to look in the A** column (don't mind the stars, those don't matter at the moment). You will look for the number that is in the row for Front Paw Strike and the column for A**. So, that number will be 14. So, Jaypaw will do 14 damage to whoever he is attacking. Let's just say he is attacking anther apprentice. Since an apprentice has 20 max health, you subtract 14 from the 20 of your opponent to get 6. Does this make sense?

Example:
Jaypaw used Front Paw Strike on another Apprentice dealing 14 damage and using 10 stamina.

(you then put the stats of each cat)
Jaypaw:
20/20 health
70/80 stamina

Apprentice:
6/20 health
80/80 stamina

and just in case, you do bold by using this:
Code:
[b] insert words here [/b]

So try just using the front paw strike for now in your next post~

Occ; seems simple enough thanks~

Ic; Jaypaw blinked and nodded he paused thinking of a move to use on him taking a deep breath Jaypaw charged forward slamming himself into Thrushstar then slamming his front paw across his head. Jaypaw scrambled backwards crouching awkwardly in his "Battle stance" getting ready for a counter attack from him keeping his gaze locked with his.

Jaypaw
20/20 Health
70/80 Stamina

Jaypaw used frontpawstrike on thrushstar -14 Hp and -10 Stamina

OOC: sweet :D you got it!! There's only one more thing you have to add in order to use a move such as leap-and-hold which does have a special effect. Although, in order to use this, you will actually have to click the "Post Reply" button at the bottom left or top left corners of the page. When looking at the first chart, it also has the special effect column. For a move such as Leap-and-Hold, it says this:
"Can't be hurt while using.
Damage inflicted each
turn move is in effect.
-Roll one "Effect Dice"-
1, 2, 3, works for one turn.
4, 5, 6, works for two turns."
This means that when replying to the topic (through the Post Reply), you post as normal with your attack, but you will have to add the dice to it which can be found underneath the Send button. It has its own box that should say "Dices Roll." In this box, you will see "Dices roll #1" and then a drop down menu. Since we got rid of the hunting system, the only dice you can choose is Effect Dice. Choose that. The number next to the word "Dice rolls" never needs to be touched. (If you cannot see the dices roll options and only see the words Dices Roll, to the very right, there should be a + sign. click that and everything should appear). Once you've done this, press send and it will redirect you to your post plus a post from Mistpelt underneath your own which gives you a random number from the dices roll. Let's just say that this number happened to be 3. Now that you have your number, you look back at the special effect column of the first chart in the battle system and follow its directions. For leap-and-hold, a 3 means that the move only works for one turn, so then you edit your post to fit the description. I shall give you an example using this post. The words in italics are what I edited into my post.

"Good, good," Thrushstar replied. He was very pleased with how Jaypaw could already attack pretty well. It was still a bit untrained, but with practice, he'd be just fine. "Now, as well as learning attack, you need to learn to defend. I will attack you, and after I will tell you how to defend this." Quickly Thrushstar leaped towards Jaypaw, jumping onto his shoulders without trying to hurt the apprentice.

Thrushstar used Leap-and-Hold dealing 0 damage and using 10 stamina. In effect for 0 more turns.

Thrushstar
106/120
290/300

Jaypaw
20/20
70/80

Occ; a bit confusing but ok

Ic; Jaypaw grunted In surprise there have been no warning once thrushstar leaped ontop of him he didn't know what to do an instinct had told him to rear up onto his hind legs. Trusting his instincts He reared up onto his wobbly hind legs and tried to shake him off of him. Once that didn't work jay paw went back onto his fore paws and rolled onto his bAck trying to shake him off turning back around to face him.

Occ; did that make sense Orr?

OOC: yep!! And yeah. The whole dice thing is a bit confusing but as soon as you do it once or twice, it will make things a lot easier.

Leaping off of the apprentice, Thrushstar turned back around to face him. "That move is called the leap-and-hold. If you are able to jump onto your opponent, aim for their shoulders and latch on as tight as you can with your claws. They cannot attack you while you are on their back and you can attack as long as you hold on." He said before getting back into his stance. "How about you give it a shot? Just do as I did."

OOC: alright just remember you still have to use the battle system with it too. That's stating the move, how long it's in effect, and the stats of either your cat or both cats. But you've gotten the hang of the dice! 8D
