Bringing in Some Dirt [OPEN]

Wolfpaw padded quietly into camp, sitting down towards the center. He looked at the kit behind him and waited for him to take in the sight, since if Nightstar let him join, this is where he'd be living from now on.

The tom kit remained standing by Wolfpaw's side, taking in his surroundings silently. He was very thoughtful about it and kept quiet like Wolfpaw always did. Am I supposed to do that too? he had thought to himself while they had been traveling the place they were now. He figured it was better to be more safe than sorry with the wild cats.
Despite his efforts to stay silent and practically nonexistent, the tom's stomach let out a fairly loud growl against his will.

Thrushstripe had already been standing around in the clearing of the camp. He had been running through the lists of everything that needed to be done in his mind and so it took him a moment to noticed Wolfpaw in the middle of the camp. Wondering why the apprentice was just randomly sitting there slightly confused the deputy until he saw, and heard, the small kit settled behind Wolfpaw. Walking towards the two, Thrushstripe looked at the kit. "Hello Wolfpaw. Who do we have here?" he asked, his voice as casual as it could get for him. He was mainly curious about why the kit would be here. Taking a second to open his mouth and catch the scent of the tiny tom, he figured it was somewhat safe. He didn't smell of any of the other clans, so that was good.

Wolfpaw blinked, a rather blank look on his face as the deputy approached. He shrugged and flicked the cat with his tail-tip gently to get his attention. "You're name...Dirty?" He asked, kind of quiet and obviously leaving out much of the words in the sentence. Hopefully the kitten would get the hint that he was asking if he had gotten the name right. He had said that others called him "Dirty", right?

"Yes." the tom kit responded, holding his head high as he spoke directly to the newest cat he had seen. He was bigger than Wolfpaw, and probably older by the sound of him. "My brothers and sisters perished when we were dumped in the river by our twoleg," he explained himself, "left there to die..." her spat the words a little, his eyes growing darker and a little distanced at the memory.

As Thrushstripe listened to the small kit, he was puzzled as to how an entire litter of kits ended up in the river and moreso how Dirty ended up coming back into Shadowclan when they didn't have access to the river, but it didn't matter at the moment. Dirty was here now and Thrushstripe didn't really know what to do. He couldn't turn the kit away. That was against the warrior code. The issue was that this kitten was not part of any of the clans. He was a rogue, or worse, a kittypet. Who knew how he would fit in? Sitting down, the tom looked down at Dirty and Wolfpaw. His eyes narrowed at the apprentice, wondering where the apprentice had gone in order to run into a kit so close to the river, but what to do with him... Looking back at the small tom, he finally spoke. "So, er... Dirty," he thought a moment. "You have no kin anywhere? Where is your mother?" If the kit actually knew, they could investigate it further to find his mother or some cat to take care of him. Otherwise...

"If he was dumped in the river by his twolegs, I doubt he has any parents worth mentioning or even still alive."
Redshade's voice came a few tail-lengths away as the russet tom padded out of the shadows towards them. He glanced briefly at Wolfpaw with a small look of curiosity, though it didn't last long. He lowered his head to Dirty and sniffed him, his nose scrunching up almost immediately. "Faint smell of twolegs." He observed aloud, looking back briskly at Thrushstripe. "If they'd do this to a kit, we don't need to think about what may have happened to his parents." His words were blunt and harsh, but he spoke some truth. Dirty said they had been dumped into the river to drown, so it was unlikely that the twolegs simply kept the parents and treated them normally after killing the kits.

Wolfpaw watched his father with a thoughtful look in his eyes. By now, he was used to this since Redshade was his dad and all, but how would Dirty react? Or Thrushstripe? The truth was harsh and maybe...Maybe they could resort to keeping the kit here instead?

ohmygoodness I suddenly feel really stupid after that last post... I totally didn't read it right even after reading it a good 4 or 5 times... didn't realize I had been that tired. Oh well. Gotta roll with it~

Thrushstripe watched as Redshade padded towards them while adding his own two sense into the situation. Of course the deputy knew that what the warrior was saying was true, but it was more of the fact that he wanted taking in the kit to be an absolute last resort. It wasn't like the clan was desperate for members and there wasn't even any clan blood in this cat. The deputy didn't even know if Dirty could survive in the forest with the clan. If there was anywhere else for this kit to go, Thrushstripe would take him there. That's why he wanted answers out of the kit and not a nosy warrior. "Let Dirty speak for himself," Thrushstripe told Redshade with a bit of authority in his voice.

"He is right." Dirty said simply, "Me and my kin were unwanted by the twoleg scum and even if you turn me away, I will never return to them..." the kit hissed the word 'never' through his small fangs, the one word dripping with so much hatred; an amount that no cat should never have been exposed to, let alone a kit.

Oh, trust. The clan had been exposed to pleanty of hatred themselves. Mistflower had been listening in on the conversation for most of the time, quietly fron her spot just outside the nursery. She had been staring down Thrushstripe and Dirty curiously. He wouldn't seriously be considering turning a kit away, would he? "If he was dumped in the river, StarClan must have shown him mercy, not many cats survive such a thing - and certainly not kits." She chose to speak up, giving Thrushstripe a respectful dip of her head as he was still her deputy, but unable to not give Wolfpaw a curious glance. Why was he at the river, so far from home? Questions for another time, she supposed. "Look at him. We couldn't turn away a kit with no home. He must've been found for a reason." Although she wasn't fond at all of the idea of bringing in outsiders, this was an entirely different matter before them.

Thrushstripe turned as soon as he heard Mistflower's voice. He knew that turning the kit away wasn't really the right thing to do, but he didn't really want to keep this outside kit. Maybe Mistflower was right. He knew that trying to turn the kit back over to the twolegs was a bad idea and something he'd never want to do to any cat. That life was too soft-- too boring. He couldn't stand the idea of living in one of those nests. Looking back at Dirty and then back to Mistflower, he let out a heavy sigh. "I hope you are correct, Mistflower," he replied before turning back to Dirty one last time. "And I hope that you are ready for life in our clan, Dirty. Life in Shadowclan can get very tough, but it can also be very good. Our clan depends on strong warriors in order to hunt for food and defend our territory. You will learn all of these skills by climbing through the ranks of kit, apprentice, and warrior if you're going to live in our clan. Of course, Of course, since you have chosen to live here, you will need a clan name. Dirty, from this day until you are ready to become an apprentice, you shall be known as Dirtkit, and we welcome you as a new member of Shadowclan." The deputy then walked over to the newly named kit and gently touched noses with him, not exactly sure if that was what was to happen since he'd never really been in this type of situation before, but it was tradition so he stuck with it.

Redshade blinked at his tone, but nodded quietly, figuring he's gotten in enough trouble lately and if he was to improve whatever of his reputation still existed, he better keep quiet. As Mistflower arrived and sorted some things out with the deputy, he glanced back down at the kit that Wolfpaw had brought in. "Lucky you. It's not often Shadowclan brings in a cat who was owned by twolegs." He meowed with a small smirk. This kit seemed toughened rather than softened from his life with the abusive twolegs. This kid was alright.
Glancing back at Thrushstripe, the warrior tipped his head a little. "Sorry for intruding, then. Just curious as to what my son brought into camp." He apologized quietly, and though it wasn't visible, he was trying hard not to speak through gritted teeth. Apologizing always annoyed him for some reason...Probably that egotistic side of him. The tom turned and padded away.

Wolfpaw had stayed quiet the whole time, his gaze flicking from warrior to warrior to deputy to warrior and so on with minimal movement of his head. The curious glanced he occasionally got from the others confused him slightly, wondering if they wanted him to say something. Or maybe he had done something weird? Oh, he had been by the river, was that weird? He silently hoped he wouldn't have to explain that, knowing he wouldn't really know how to answer.
When his father left the small group, he glanced at Dirty, then back at Thrushstripe. "Will..." He suddenly spoke in a soft, quiet voice, as if so others wouldn't hear him. "Will he get a name-change?"

Dirtkit, the tom kit said the name to himself in his head, liking the sound of it. Yes, I could get used to this... As soon as the older cat, whom he had identified as Thrushstripe, touched noses with him, Dirtkit lowered his head in respect. This was to be his new life now, and not only would he never have to return to those horrendous twolegs again, but he could learn how to make them pay for what they had done to him and his siblings. Just like us, they're as good as dead...
