Russet Blood

Russetpaw sighed, having snuck out of the camp on his own in order to talk a walk, hopefully to clear his head. It'd been rather difficult for him lately. He has been doing absolutely nothing but staying in camp and tending to the elders while all his friends, those he had grown up in the nursery with, were constantly training and forgetting about him. StarClan, cats younger than him were already getting their warrior names. He had thought having Froststar as his mentor was a blessing, but it was as if she forgot he even existed. It made him angry, putting an uncomfortable bitterness in his heart. It wasn't fair! ... It really wasn't...
His paws heavy with disappointment, he held his head low - not realizing where he was until he finally glanced back up; seeing the old two-leg farm. He hadn't been here before, he hardly knew it existed. The tom scoffed. Thanks to his great clan and mentors. Maybe - he thought for a moment - Clan life wasn't for him. Or RiverClan, at least. They didn't want him, so why should he want to be there? He had been so caught up in his clouded thoughts he didn't notice anyone else around.

A yowl came from the barn, and in a flash of gray a larger tom leaped at the smaller tom and shoved him down, pressing the russet face into the dirt. "Who are you and what're you doing here?" he snarled, pressing the young cat's face harder into the dirt as a light rain started to fall. His tail lashed and he flexed his claws, scoring marks in the apprentice's face and in the dirt.

The young tom let out a screech when he finally noticed a shadow move behind him and tried to move out of the way, but it was too late and he was quickly pinned, his face shoved into the dirt. "I can't talk - breathe -" Russetpaw quickly gasped for air, coughing up dust and struggling to get away, an icy cold fear prickling at his heart. Still, he managed to wiggle away enough to cast a sharp glance at his attacker. Intruder! His stubborn pride kicked in, terrified as he was. "R-Russetpaw of RiverClan!" He spat, "This is our land you're on!"

"Our? I don't see a single cat here besides me and you." he retorted, stepping back to let the cat stand up. His tail lashed and he curled his lip back in a snarl. "Besides, I'd like to see such a pathetic cat challenge me." he added, smiling rather smugly.

Russetpaw held back a whimper in the back of his throat, feeling the rogue's claws bleed his cheek, but he managed to keep a straight face and mask his sign of weakness as a growl. Although there was no masking his fear scent, he was still determined to put on a brave show. "Use your nose, idiot!" He spat, gold eye flaring. "The whole of my clan set their border down. Did you miss it when you trampled over like a stupid badger or is your scent really so foul its the only thing that fills your nose?" He narrowed his gaze, his pelt fluffing up as if the small tom were ready to pounce at any moment, though his body was shaking. What little training battle training he had received would do him no good up against a large cat like this. He had no choice. He had to run.
The tom sprinted forward, making it look as if he'd leap for the rogue, but slipped the other way instead; hopefully slipping back into the reeds. If he could just make it to camp, or find a patrol, he'd be safe!

Then Sarrow actually remembered this existed and whirling around, Boulder tore off after him with a screech. Chasing the apprentice wasn't that difficult, for his legs were longer, but the other cat was smaller. Ducking through swathes of reeds and chasing the cat hardly tired him, but as he neared he leaped forward with a yowl and landed square on the russet-furred shoulders, pressing the cat to the ground. He'd probably unintentionally snapped his spine, but he also bit the apprentice's neck to make sure. He then ducked away without another word, tail lashing.
