Silvershade sat quietly near the camp entrance, waiting for Maplepaw. It was time for her assessment; soon she'd be a warrior. 83

A soft crash came from the apprentice den as Maplepaw tripped over her own paws in her hurry to leave the den. However, she soon made her way out and raced over to were Silvershade was sitting, her eyes sparkling. She slid to a stop as she stood tall, smiling at her mentor. "Here and ready, Silvershade!"

Silvershade's lips curled into a small grin as her apprentice crashed out of her den in order to get to her. "Good! Today is your assessment. I want you to try to catch at least four pieces of prey. I'll be watching you, so if you see me, even though it's unlikely, ignore me. Ready?"

Maplepaw paused for a second, but soon nodded. Four pieces of prey? She could do that! Without another word, she spun and raced into the territory. This was going to be fun. She finally came to a stop near the middle of the territory, her ears flickering as she looked around. The faint noise of running water could be heard, so she thought about heading toward the river but she quickly threw that thought into the back of her mind. No way was she getting her paws wet...not unless she was having a lot of trouble catching things on land at least. She could always try to catch frogs but they weren't really tasty...She paused when she caught hold of a scent, smiling softly. Vole. That would work. She dropped into a hunting crouch and pulled herself forward, heading toward the vole. Poking her head over a bush, she caught site of the prey. In fact, there we two of them. She smiled softly as she started to pull herself around the bush without being seen, and after a few moments to get set; she jumped.

She landed on the larger of the two with a grin, easily killing it but when she looked up to take care of the other one, it was gone. She let out a huff as she picked up her new piece of prey in her mouth. One down, three to go. She dropped it off in a nice hiding spot before going back to her hunt. Movement caught her gaze, but when she turned to face it; there was nothing. Maplepaw smiled sightly as she returned to her assessment. That must of been Silvershade or something. She shrugged it off as she caught site of a moving black form, causing her to slowly start to move forward. A raven pecked at the ground, unaware of the she-cat watching it. Maplepaw shook her rump before leaping, her claws ready to kill.

Maplepaw landed on the raven as it let out a cry, but it was cut short by the brown she-cat bringing down her paw on its neck. Two out of four. She was doing pretty good. After hiding the raven with her vole, she went back to trekking though the territory. She paused as the sound of water, wondering if she should heard toward the river but she quickly shook it off. No, she was going to try to catch one more thing here on dry land before trying to fish. She dropped into her crouch as she pulled herself forward, sure she had tasted the scent of a mouse. Indeed, there was a mouse sitting by a root, an easy hiding place if she wasn't careful. Maplepaw moved herself to what looked to be a good spot before taking the leap toward the mouse.

The mouse looked up with a squeak, and quickly disappeared under the root. Maplepaw landed on the ground with a huff, before sighing and started her way toward the river. She paused as she found herself at the border of the running water, and crouched down as she stared at the blue reflecting surface. She waited steady for a shadow of some sort to move across her field of vision. Finally, she saw what looked to be a shape of a fish and darted her paw into the water, hoping to catch it.

Sleek scales raced across her paws, causing Maplepaw to unsheathe her claws and pull her paw out of the water. A silver fish came sliding out with her, causing her to smile. Just one more piece of prey to go. Her tail flickered as she placed the fish next to her and went back to watching the water, waiting for another fish to swim by so that it maybe would also share the same fate. After a few moments, she caught sight of another shadow and shot her paw forward. Come on, let me catch this one!

YES! Once again the sleek scales of a fish raced across Maplepaw's paw and she pulled it out of the water with a look of victory on her face. She quickly killed it and after picking up her other fish, started to head back to get her other two catches. Names started running though her head, wondering what her warrior name would be. She barely pay attention to the outside world as she picked up her vole and raven, so focus on the glee that she was going to become a warrior now that she had finished and passed her assessment. She had caught all four after all, and shown she was able to catch on both dry land and water, which she figured would be good enough for Silvershade. Finally she reached their meeting spot and sat down, making a small smile out of her four catches.

Silvershade was already there, grinning happily. "Good job, Maplepaw! You did great, you pass with flying colors. I'll talk to Froststar about your warrior ceremony as soon as possible."
