Mallowpaw lay in the middle of the RiverClan clearing a couple of tail-lengths away from the fresh kill pile. He slowly picked at a small fish, a somewhat sour look on his face. Mallowpaw didn't really like fish, but he was bored, hungry, and that was the smallest fresh-kill in the pile. "I would do anything to be back in ShadowClan at this point..." he muttered to himself, sighing quietly.
He picked the half-eaten, small fish up. It looked disgusting... and it didn't taste too far off from that, either. It was floppy, and slippery... ugh!

"Hmph, a toad turned to crow-food would taste better than that thing, Mallowpaw," Gingerheart mewed as she padded up to the medicine cat apprentice. She was still covered with scratches, some already scabbing over, but a lot of them she couldn't leave alone. Whenever she walked, the cuts would just open up once more, but thankfully they didn't bleed nearly as bad as they did the night of the actual battle in which they had lost their home. Not only that, but her fur was matted in places as if she just hadn't kept up with herself and her eyes dropped with yet more sorrow and anger she just couldn't seem to keep away. It was excruciating to have to wake up in Riverclan camp, it was even worse that the Riverclan warriors worked during the day. Who would want to run around in that bright sunlight anyway? It's too hot for all that, although she had to admit it felt decent in the freezing cold weather of leaf-bare.

With a sigh, the warrior sat down next to the apprentice and took a good look at the fresh-kill pile. It was already rather small from the season, but having to camps eat from the same pile was killing it. She then took a long look at another piece of fish and wrinkled her nose. It just didn't seem appetizing even though fish were really no worse than frogs. But frogs were slimy and gross in their own special way; fish... well, they were just slimy and gross.

"Yeah... I know," Mallowpaw sighed, throwing the fish to the side. "Just wish we could go back to ShadowClan and catch a frog!" he laughed. As the cat looked to the side, he noticed all of Gingerheart's open cuts. His eyes got a little wide. "Are you okay...?" he asked, cocking his head to the side and inspecting the wounds. He then looked at the warrior sternly.
"These could get infected!" he gasped. "You really should be resting more often if they keep opening when you walk around..."

The she-cat gingerly shrugged it off as if the cuts weren't too much of a big deal. Yeah, they stung, but she wasn't willing to let the Riverclan medicine cat take care of her if Mallowpaw and Softwhisper could do just as well of taking care of her. "I just haven't had the time to get them looked at," She meowed, although the truth was that she was too proud to let anyone really help her. She didn't want to ask for help, but in some ways she was hoping that Mallowpaw would insist on treating her.. that was, if he knew how.

"Do you want me to treat them?" he asked quickly, his eyes brightening. "I've been dying to do something all day!" he sighed happily.

At first, Gingerheart gave him a look as if he had bees in his brain. This warrior didn't need help! But the more she sat there and felt the annoyance of the cuts, especially the ones on her belly, she finally gave in, sitting down and allowing the apprentice to take care of her wounds. "Fine, but don't think that I actually need your help," She meowed, which was basically her way of saying thank you.

Mallowpaw's eyes got an excited glow as he twitched his whiskers at Gingerheart. He ran into the RiverClan medicine cat den. When he emerged, he came out with cobwebs and marigold.
The cat put the cobwebs over the scratches and made some poultice to put on them.

As Mallowpaw placed the cobwebs on Gingerheart's wounds, she looked at them with a strange glance. They felt so weird against her fur and her skin. The stickiness was definitely something she wasn't used to, but she let it stay there nonetheless. But it was when she saw the other herbs that Mallowpaw had brought with him did she become a little nervous. "Is that going to sting?" She asked, hoping it wouldn't, but she had a bad feeling she was going to be wrong.

"Not much at all," Mallowpaw replied, his voice a little muffled while he put the poultice on. "If you want, I can give you a poppy seed," he suggested, slightly shivering from the cold. "It'll ease any pain, and you'll get really tired afterwards."

"Maybe that's what I need. A good nap. Alright," She told him with a sigh. It stunk being considered useless. With all the scratches and things she had on her, she could barely walk very long let alone hunt or do some kind of border patrol-- if she could even do that in this strange territory. In some ways, she thought she could get lost too easily. It bothered her to know that she could barely do anything in this camp, and picking a fight with Riverclan's medicine cat probably wasn't too much of a good idea either. Oh, Starclan, she really needed to think about things before she said it.

Mallowpaw nodded and gave Gingerheart a single, tiny poppy seed. "For now, I'm only giving you one," he began, "since there are still cats we need to treat. Come see me if some of the wounds are still bleeding after your nap."

The warrior nodded and quickly ate the poppy seed, inhaling it faster than she could chew it simply because she didn't want to know if it was bitter or not. She really didn't like the fact that anything awful had to be in her mouth sooo... medicine wasn't really her thing. But, it wasn't actually as bad as she thought it was going to be and shortly after, she started to feel woozy. Trying to keep her eyelids open for the time being, she glanced at the apprentice with a slight smile. "Thanks, Mallowpaw," She mumbled before placing her head on her paws and falling asleep for a nice little nap.

"No problem," Mallowpaw purred, walking away so the warrior could get some rest.
