Boredom and a Butterfly

Rainkit walked carefully on the unfamiliar ground. He had expected his first time out of the nursery to be more exciting. But it was cold, and the sand was a boring pale brownish color and the landscape was bare--with only a few splotches of a unusual, cold, white, wet dirt decorating it. Rainkit was torn from his musings as something darted in front of his water-blue eyes. His normally narrowed eyes, almost permanently that way due to a natural suspicion of other cats, widened quickly. A strange colorful, flying... thing flew crazily around him.

Rainkit's wide blue eyes blinked. It was pretty, he thought.

Falconfang stood nearby, noticing the new kit looking wide-eyed at a butterfly. The warrior walked over with a playful smirk and mewed, "Well hello there. And who might you be?" He hadn't met the new kit, but it was good that the clan was growing. Starclan knows it had been too long since the clan was really prosperous.

Rainkit turned toward the sound for a fraction of a second. It was a cat, he realized.

Rainkit blinked once and grunted. Then twice more, before returning his gaze to the colorful, pretty flying flower... thing.

Shadekit wandered over to where Falconfang was standing. "Hello," she said, "My names Shadekit, whats yours?"

Well, that was certainly rude! Falconfang huffed, before turning towards the new kit who was speaking to him.

"Oh hello Shadekit. My name's Falconfang."

"Falconfang, what a cool name!" Shadekit exclaimed.

"I would hope so, as I was the one to pick it," Stormstar came padding from his den with a yawn. He paused as he looked at the kit as he flickered his tail. "Hello there, little one," the large tom purred as he sat down.

Twistedkit came padded from the nursery at that time, doing his best not to limp but with a twisted paw, it is kinda hard. His ears flickered when the sound of talking reached his ears, and he turned his gaze to the four cats, with a large smile appeared on his face when he saw Stormstar. "Father!" he purred, racing as fast as he could before tackling the large tom with all his force. Stormstar hadn't been visiting the young kit lately, but seeing how worried his father was acting every once in a while, the small kit couldn't blame him.

"Who are you?" Shadekit asked Stormstar. She had no idea that he was the leader of WindClan.

Rainkit finally looked away from the flying thing (after it flew away of course) and toward the four unfamiliar cats. One of them he was vaguely aware of one being quite important in the... what was the word? Oh yes, clan.

With his colorful thing gone, Rainkit was bored again. So he did he turned his now-narrowed gaze to the next most interesting thing, the vaguely important-looking cat.

Stormstar grinned at the two kits as he wrapped his long tail around his son. "I would be Stormstar, leader of WindClan of course."

"Stormstar!" Shadekit mewed, "My mother told me about you. She said you are a very good leader."

Rainkit's eyes widened for a fraction of a second, leader. Yes a leader was important, and powerful. This was almost as interesting as the flying thing, he thought.

His mind made up, Rainkit quietly and unblinkingly meowed, "I'm Rainkit."

"Hey Rainkit and Twistedkit, do you want to play mossball with me?" Shadekit asked.

Rainkit blinked toward to smaller cat. Mossball, he had heard the word before... But he couldn't remember what it was.

He spoke softly, "Mossball?"

"Yes, when we pass a mossball around. It sounds boring but it's really fun!" exclaimed Shadekit.
