Let's move away from those silly Brits and their stuffy school in Scotland for a while. They didn't invent the wand, and they weren't the first to say alohomora. Granted, neither were we, but our stories are just as important.

Muggle-born students receive this in person from a member of the faculty.

The Salem Institute of Magic prides itself in being one of the best schools of magic in the world. Besides Hogwarts, Beauxbatons, and Durmstrang of Europe, Vermhinas of South America, and Mahoutokoro in Asia, it is one of the only places in the world young students can receive a real education in magic. The vast majority of North American students are sent here, mainly in the USA and Canada. Formerly an all-witches school, Salem opened its doors to wizards in 1984. The current year is 1995.

Salem works much like Hogwarts. It is in a secluded part of Massachusetts, a mirage-like temperate forest that Muggles cannot view. The castle itself is large and magnificent. It consists of several areas, modeled after Hogwarts. As such, there are common rooms for each House, a dining hall, kitchens, classrooms, staff dormitory, a library, dungeons, etc.

Houses

At Salem, there are only three houses. The sorting ceremony involves pulling out a piece of your hair and placing it in a cauldron. It turns the color of the House it chooses for you; green for Mistmarch, red for Rowanscale, and blue for Silverwell. There is a House Cup and House Point system like Hogwarts.

Rowanscale - the most intelligent, persistent, and resourceful of the school's students. Their symbol is a crow, and they were founded by Rebecca Rowanscale. Like the birds, people in Rowanscale tend to be mysterious and clever. . but can be sarcastic and haughty as well. They love mischief and are considered courageous, yet a bit too rash. Their colors are red and black, and their most favored classes are Defense Against the Dark Arts and Transfiguration. Head of House is Professor Finch.

Mistmarch - the kindest of the three, they are normal simple yet compassionate. Their symbol is a toad, and their founder was Millicent Mistmarch. They value honor and mercy, though they can be a bit ditsy or resistant to change. Mistmarch's students are polite and friendly. Their colors are green and yellow, and they love Herboloy and Potions.

Silverwell - students of Silverwell House are considered sly, driven, introverted, and playful. Their symbol is a cat, and their founder was Sarah Silverwell. They value relaxation and individualism, but they can be distant or cold. Silverwell boasts intelligent (if sometimes bored) and creative students. Their colors are blue and silver. Many love History of Magic and Charms. Head of Silverwell House is Professor Crowne.

Staff

- Petra Graymalk: Headmistress Graymalk is a short, benevolent woman who used to teach Herbology. She is 54, a bit on the round side, and has short brown hair and green eyes. She has a smile for everyone. She was in Mistmarch House.

- Irma Finch: Deputy Headmistress, and an imposing, stern woman that teaches Defense Against the Dark Arts. While Graymalk is kind and sweet, Finch is much more authoritarian and strict. Do not expect fun in her class. She's 49 years old, and her hair is already gray -- she keeps short and smart. Head of Rowanscale House.

- Gregory Pascal: An honest, bright young (26) man that only recently became a Professor. He is fun and inviting, yet maintains a mysterious persona. His hair is dark and he often appears a bit disshelved, but is still a handsome man. He teaches Charms and Art. He was in Silverwell House.

- Esmeralda Crowne: A blunt, secretive old woman that is of the hag (basically an old witch, but somehow warrants a separate category with the Ministry) variety. She has long gray hair and is a bit hunched over. Some believe she is 100 years old. She teaches Alchemy and Earth Magic. Head of Silverwell House.

- Edward Hubbard: An old (70), strange man that went to school at Hogwarts, in Slytherin House. He teaches History of Magic and Ancient History.

- Tiana Wright: A pretty, 30 year old blond woman who is often breezy and clueless. She teaches Astronomy and was in Mistmarch House.

- Laura Tempol: A quiet, serene 40 year old woman that teaches Herbology. She is very religious and views Transfiguration and DADA in a negative light. Known for baking for her students. Head of Mistmarch House.

- Johnathon Smith: An aggressive 34 year old wizard; he is the Quidditch referee, teaches first years Flying, and also heads Apparition classes. He acts as groundskeeper as well. Was in Rowanscale House.

- Arthur Lorius: a rough 60 year old man that watches over the magical creatures on the grounds. He teaches Care of Magical Creatures. He was in Silverwell House.

- Morganna Redman: teacher of Transfiguration. A thin and worn looking old woman that often fades into the background; however, she is very kind to the students. Was in Mistmarch House.

- Daniel Ferrin: a short, balding middle-aged man that teaches Potions. He is very passive and is considered a pushover by his students. Not a talented wizard, but good at potion making. Was in Silverwell House.

- Angelina White: young woman that teaches Arithmancy. She has dark skin, black hair, and is quite pretty, if a bit serious. Rumored to have a romantic relationship with Professor Pascal. Was in Rowanscale House.

- Caleb Drudgin: a middle-aged, leathery looking man with shockingly white hair. His class is known to be boring and his voice rather monotonous. He is quite strict. He teaches Ancient Runes. He was in Rowanscale House.

- Magdalene Lemelle: a 45 year old creole woman that often talks about "the bones, child." She is a bit eccentric and a little distant. She was in Silverwell House.

Classes

Classes are slightly different from Hogwarts, so pay attention. >:I

Required (Years 1-7, can be dropped in favor of an elective. Transfiguration, DADA & Charms cannot be dropped.)

Astronomy: magical study of the stars, planets, and their movements. Taught by Professor Wright.
Charms: various charms are taught in this class; integral in a basic grasp of magic, despite being "softer" than Transfiguration or DADA. Taught by Professor Pascal.
Defense Against the Dark Arts: defensive and offensive protective spells, jinxes, and curses. Taught by Professor Finch.
Flying (FIRST YEARS): teh kitties learn how to fly their brooms awww <3. Taught by Coach Smith.
Herbology: study of plants, herbs, and their properties. Taught by Professor Tempol.
History of Magic: history class, lol. Taught by Professor Hubbard.
Potions: how do you use the herbs from herbology? you mix 'em up. Taught by Professor Ferrin.
Transfiguration: turn something into something else. Taught by Professor Redman.

Elective (Years 3+)
Study of Ancient Runes: borrrinnggg. Taught by Professor Drudgin.
Arithmancy: Teh magic behind numbers. Taught by Professor White.
Care of Magical Creatures: learn how to save teh magic walez. Taught by Professor Lorius.
Divination: see the future. Taught by Professor Lemelle.
Apparation (SIX YEARS): poof! Taught by Coach Smith.
Alchemy: Learn how to wield the four basic elements. Taught by Professor Crowne.

Extra-curricular activities
Quidditch: broomsticksss. we'll have teams and shet. Coach Smith is the referee.
Art: express yourself. Taught by Professor Pascal.
Earth Magic: wield the power of the ground; an archaic form of magic. Taught by Professor Crowne.
Music: Professor Ferrin conducts students interested in choir and orchestra.
Magical Theory: Focuses on the theoretical application of magic and its effects. Taught by Professor White.
Xylomancy: a form of divination relying on twigs. Taught by Professor Lemelle.
Ancient History: spells of the ancient times; Egypt, Greece, etc. Also history. |D

YOUR STUDENT IS A FIFTH YEAR. THEY MAY HAVE ELECTIVES AND EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES.

- You can only have 8 classes total. 3 must be Trans, DADA, & Charms. The rest can be either electives or core classes of your choice.
- You may only have 0, 1, or 2 Extra curricular activities.
- 5th years, no matter the House, share the same core classes. You may be in classes with other years.
- This is a really simplistic system and if someone can come up with a better one please do.

Personality: Olive is extremely carefree and playful, and always seems to be happy. She has a knack for schoolwork, and soaks up everything she learns in class. Olive can be rather mischievous, and will do anything to help a friend. She's very passionate, and can seem rash and dangerous at times. She is outgoing, and says what's on her mind, though this can get her in trouble at times. Olive is extremely defensive, and her biggest pet peeve is being called a mud blood. Regardless, she'll never fail to help a friend, and is extremely selfless and kindhearted. Extremely protective towards her brother.

BFF: Earth magic is an extracurricular activity, not a class; just switch that and we'll be good. x3 . . . and her brother has a girl's name.

Gray: Quidditch is spelled like that. ~ also: Half-bloods are wizards/witches with one magical parent and one muggle parent; muggleborns, or mudbloods, have two muggle parents. And you need one more class, you only have seven. Other than that you're good.

Fun fact for everyone: Muggle-born children aren't random. They have magical blood. An ancestor of theirs' was a Squib that mated with a Muggle. x3
