Morningpaw's Medicine Cat Ceremony

The spirits of StarClan were gathering around, peering down eagerly as they watched Morningpaw enter Mothermouth. When she would walk in and fall asleep aside the Moonstone, they would be waiting for her.

Morningpaw carefully padded in the dark. She had done this a few times for medicine cat meetings, and knew the way. She saw a light up ahead and picked up her speed. The moon was already glowing. SHe should hurry.

She stepped into the cavern that never ceased to amaze her. After getting used to the light for a few moments, she laid beside the moonstone and closed her eyes, rocketing into the world of StarClan

There, in the familiar starry territory, many of RiverClan's ancestors would be waiting for her - one pushing her way through the crowd and happily pressing her nose to Morningpaw's gently. "Welcome." Mintberry said happily, her eyes shining, "Are you ready to receive your true name as a medicine cat?"

"Yes!" Morningpaw said excitedly. She had been ready for a long time. All day she had quizzed herself, testing to see if she knew all the herbs. She remembered them all, thought a few came a tad slow, but she would get better.

Mintberry smiled and stepped back, "I, Mintberry, former medicine cat of RiverClan, call upon my fellow warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. She has trained hard to understand the ways of a medicine cat, and with your help she will serve her Clan for many moons." The she-cat flicked her dainty black tail and focused all her attention on the calico, "Morningpaw, do you promise to uphold the ways of a medicine cat, to stand apart from rivalry between Clan and Clan and to protect all cats equally, even at the cost of your life?"

"I do," Morningpaw said, her green eyes glowing as she stood before her mentor, standing tall. She felt like she could leap for joy, but she stood still and calm in front of Mintberry as she said the ceremonial words.

The jet black warrior nodded, "Then by the powers of StarClan I give you your true name as a medicine cat. Morningpaw, from this moment you will be known as Morningfur. StarClan honors your spirit and determination, and we welcome you as a full medicine cat of RiverClan." Happily, the starry she-cat rested her head gently on Morningfur's head as the surrounding StarClan cats cheered her name.

Morningfur felt thrilled as Mintberry announced her new name. She licked Mintberry's shoulder, then took a step back, holding her head high. "Thank you, Mintberry," she said. "For everything."

Mintberry's looked brimming with happyness. "Of course." She meowed, then took a few steps back. One by one, in flashed, the spirits of StarClan disappeared - and soon Mintberry was gone. The clearing went completely dark and the sounds of screeching cats could be heard, battle yowls echoing in the nothingness. "Be wary, Morningfur. A great danger lies ahead."
And with that, the newly named medicine cat would awaken.

Morningfur awoke with a start, thinking about what Mintberry had said.

"Be wary, Morningfur. A great danger lies ahead."

What great danger? The last words reeled in her head as she stood. The cavern had gone dark now, and she had to feel her way into the tunnel. She pondered about the warning as she traveled back home
