The same reason they know what snakes and such are. They might have come across one one time or another in the history of the clans. It is very much possible.

Yes, but there is also a substance called 'birdlime' , in which is smeared in branches to capture birds. Now, I am fairly certain some cat hunting could have saw this stuff, and named it lime. Anyhow, it is a mystery how cats got some terms like mice, squirrels, trees, and leaves absolutely correct, so I could understand how this could be the same.
