Under the canopy of the forest, Yewshade led his apprentice to a secluded clearing. This was one that Mallowcloud and Yewshade had found together many moons ago. The sunlight filtered through the freshly grown Newleaf leaves, dappling the ground with golden light. He felt unhappy that additional warriors had to come, but given the circumstances it was a necessary evil. He'll find a use for them somehow.
Yewshade stepped out into the clearing, turning to face Ridgepaw. "Ridgepaw, today we'll start with sparring. When I was your age, I sparred in this very clearing." He mewed. "Sparring is not just physical strength, but you must have agility and a strategy. In battle, your opponent might not fight fair. You must be prepared for anything." His voice strained at that last part - undoubtedly, he was thinking of a recent event. With a shake of his head, he continued. "Though, I expect you to always fight fair and respect the warrior code."
Yewshade, a few tail-lengths away, assumed a defensive stance across from his apprentice. "Come at me, Ridgepaw. Claws sheathed." He encouraged. "Show me what you've got."
