In truth, while Pineblossom was better at talking now than she was when she was younger, she was still incredibly awkward when it came to children. Especially…young children. She was good with her own kits; the maternal instincts helped there. But kits that were not her own, such as the one before her…It was a whole other matter entirely. But she promised to help watch after some kits while the queens that normally took up residence got some fresh air. She sat there blinking awkwardly at the kit before her until she finally decided she must say something. She cleared her throat. “…do you enjoy the nursery?”

"Not even a little bit." Cardinalkit responded with a tinge of sarcasm in her tone. She glanced at each of the nests inside of the nursery before looking back up at her kitsitter with a frown. "It's like sleeping in one big huddle! Why would I want to huddle with any kits that aren't my own littermates?" Complaining was easy, it was safe, and in Cardinalkit's little world, there was a lot to complain about, and she was intent on making sure that she was heard. It was past the time for her and her littermates to join the apprentices, and she was going to make it everyone's problem but her own.

Pineblossom’s ear flicked, though her expression didn’t change. She was unused to such a tone from a kit. Too often kits were happy and excited by the world but it seemed that Cardinalkit was different than most. Pineblossom watched her for a moment before she replied, “They may not be your littermates, but they are still your clanmates. They are cats that you will be growing up with and working alongside. Besides, they will keep you warm and safe as well.”

Cardinalkit blinked. She didn't want to be kept safe like she was some sort of damsel in distress. She could take care of herself, thank you very much. The kit was willing to grow up with the rest of her Clanmates, sure, but that didn't meant that she wanted to be squeezed between them constantly in her sleep. "I can like my Clanmates and still want personal space, right? I can't even breathe in there." She shook her head in disgust before looking back up at Pineblossom with her usual uninterested gaze.
