The night starting to surrender to the embrace of dawn. The first light of day timidly peeked over the horizon, casting a gentle glow.
Orchidpaw was settled in the heart of the camp, her eyes tired. She had been horribly busy, and her muscles were enjoying the moment to relax. Yet, her stomach disagreed. She was starving. She rose to her paws, slowly walking towards the freshkill pile. She pawed at it in a debate of what she was hungry for. There wasn't much: two mice, two lizards, a bird... She pouted. Not a single frog in sight. "Shame..." She mewed to herself. She guessed the warriors had already raided this pile.
She grabbed the two mice, scanning the clearing in hopes that there was someone she could share them with. She felt excited - what if there was a restless kit interested in trying their first bite of freshkill? Or better yet, she could share this with Nettlepaw.

"Why so sad, Orchidpaw?" mewed Nettlepaw, approaching the fluffy she-cat. Mismatched eyes danced on her form, before settling down opposite her. His gaze travelled from her eyes to the two pieces of prey. "Am I allowed to join... Or is that mouse saved for somebody else?"

Orchidpaw's ears perked at the sound of Nettlepaw's voice - a soft smile spreading across her face. "I'd much rather share them with you than anyone else." She mewed, making herself comfortable across from him - resting the mice in between them.
She nudged one of the mice towards him. She tried to bounce back quickly from this, but it hurt her confidence. What better cat to tell about it than Nettlepaw?
"It's just, that I went on a hunting patrol with Larkshine the other day..." She spoke softly, "I accidentally attacked a rat. It bit me. It doesn't hurt as bad anymore, but, you know..." She trailed off, her tail flicking. When she said it out loud, it just sounded ridiculous.

Not needing to be told twice, Nettlepaw took the other mouse. "And I you." he mewed in affirmation, licking his lips. The mouse was tender when he bit into it, but as he peeked up from his meal the white tom noticed Orchidpaw hadn't dug in yet. What was she waiting for? She still looked so sad. His heart thumped painfully against his chest at how hurt she looked. Orchidpaw was so nice, how dare she be hurt. Worry filled Nettlepaw's eyes as she told him what happened. "May I see?" he asked quietly "Did you see Heatherberry?" His voice was laced with worry and fear for his friend. The apprentice's whiskers twitched thoughtfully as he remembered his own encounter with one of the marsh's predators. "I bet it hurt. I wouldn't stress I picked a fight with a porcupine several moonrises ago."
