Bubblebeam was no longer used to the light of the sun. Despite the temperatures remaining somewhat cold, the brilliance of the sun now arrived earlier and left later, bathing the SkyClan territories in golden hues. It warmed the thickness of her pelt as she padded through the trees. However, for some reason, it felt... almost too bright. Almost stifling in its glory, for reasons that she couldn't put a paw on. She'd always loved the warmth and the sun; why did it now make her uncomfortable? It didn't really matter, so she tried to push the odd feelings away for now. This was just supposed to be a hunting trip with her Auntie Graywind. Since the sun had come out suddenly, the prey would likely be seeking its long-retreated rays, so they were checking Halfstone to find some hopefully easier catches. Still, even the idea of running into another fox set Bubblebeam's teeth on edge, so she glanced behind her shoulder every chance she got.
"You're sure that the predator hunt patrol hunted the last of the foxes?" she asked for probably the third time in as many minutes. Then she sighed, forcibly attempting to flatten her poofy fur. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry. It's just... I still remember when the foxes invaded camp. I was just a little apprentice then. It scared me a lot. Not that I haven't had worse scares since then, just..." Bubblebeam shook her head, annoyed with herself. "It's okay. We should just look for some prey, then." The predator scent at Halfstone seemed fairly stale, from her limited knowledge of the subject, so she tried to ignore the way that it made her pelt itch and instead set her sights on a vole sunbathing nearby. Its eyes were closed; it probably wouldn't see her at all. Eyes narrowed, she dropped into a hunting crouch. She could do one thing right. She just had to not get distracted. Get food for the Clan.
Unfortunately, her focus led her to completely miss that something else was stalking her; even as she crept up on prey, another predator viewed her as its prey. A young fox, its parents killed by a previous SkyClan patrol, lay hidden in wait for its prey to arrive. Its sights had been set on the vole as well, but soon it eyed the much larger she-cat as a better option. Without warning, it lunged from its shelter in the undergrowth, eyes burning with hunger from the long leaf-bare of its kithood.
Bubblebeam had been focused--but even she could not miss the sudden foul scent being breathed into her face. Quickly she turned, just moments before the snarling fox would have reached her. The very thing she'd feared, right in front of her. Did she run or fight? No, she was between the fox and the rock--she had no option. She couldn't even scream for Graywind. Hopefully her aunt was nearby. Fear seized her heart, pumping adrenaline through her veins, but she had just enough time to act. Through the terror, the warrior lashed out with her claws, feeling them rip through the predator's flesh. It let out a pained hiss and darted forward. Sharp teeth bit into her shoulder, and suddenly she found herself shaken around, losing all sense of direction and self in the sudden shock. She almost didn't even notice when it let go and she fell to the ground hard, what little breath remained in her lungs knocked out. Hot blood leaked from the puncture wounds on her shoulder, but she was in too much shock to really feel how badly the wound burned. Instead, her eyes wide open, she tried desperately to catch her breath.
Bubblebeam used Front Paw Strike + Desperate Blows on Fox, dealing 13 (8+5) damage and costing 14 (7+7) stamina. Fox used Thrash on Bubblebeam, dealing 10 damage and costing 15 stamina. Bubblebeam is stunned for 1 turn.
The last few moons had been a whirlwind, enough to send anyone's head spinning. Graywind was simply grateful for the chance to patrol with her niece, with someone she considered a friend. To patrol, away from the drama and tension, away from the fury and uncertainty that seemed to plague the clan.
"I think so... I hope so." The second half of her statement was quieter, less certain than Graywind would care to admit. It seemed like foxes were the one predator Skyclan could never shake, and Bubblebeam's mention of that attack on camp made the hair on the back of her neck stand on end in memory. "I don't like foxes either... That day in camp was scary." She agreed softly, "What we've faced after doesn't diminish that, I don't think." She added.
The pair were focused on finding prey, but the sudden foul scent in the air had Graywind's hackles lifting and a snarl on her face. Perhaps, she thought, they should not have spoken of foxes at all. That was surely why this young one had appeared, it was Starclan laughing at them. "Get off of her!" The sight of the fox thrashing Bubblebeam had Graywind lunging forward, her teeth sinking into foul-smelling russet fur.
Bubblebeam's vision fuzzed black. She'd felt awful, agonizing pain before--the ThunderClan cat's claws swiping through her belly and opening the scar on her face came to mind. But for some reason, the now-bleeding gashes on her shoulder had her completely stunned. Lying on the forest floor, trying to force air back through her lungs. Get up. Get up. Get up. If she didn't get up, the fox could kill her. But a loud cry split the air in a familiar voice, and the fox's attention was turned away from her. Auntie Graywind. Through the pounding shock and adrenaline, fear once again resurfaced like a heavy stone sunk into the pit of her stomach. Graywind could get badly hurt! Stars, it was all her fault for not seeing the fox. She should've been paying attention. Gasping, trembling, Bubblebeam flexed her paws, trying with all her strength to get back on her paws. She didn't want anyone to get hurt because of her.
The fox whirled and snarled, feeling sharp teeth biting into its skin. It hadn't seen the other, older warrior--otherwise it might not have chosen to attack. But now that it was already engaged, it saw no reason to back away. This could get it two meals instead of one; if it was lucky, this could feed it for half a week. The other cat, currently twitching and bleeding on the ground, wasn't a threat--so it switched targets for a moment, snapping at its attacker. It bit down hard on the she-cat's foreleg, regrettably missing any bone but opening up puncture wounds for blood to ooze through. If it could just win this fight, it would be worth the pain.
Fox used Iron Bite on Graywind, dealing 17 damage and costing 30 stamina. Bubblebeam is no longer stunned.

Graywind hissed as sharp teeth sank into her foreleg with force she really should have known to expect. It wasn't her first time battling foxes, after all. But stars, did that hurt. Blood felt warm on her fur as hot spikes of pain radiated through her leg, and Graywind dug her own fangs into the fox's pelt as best she could. She needed to end this before either of them were hurt more seriously than they had already been. At least, she thought grimly, the fox had turned toward her, and not the younger Skyclanner.
Eventually--despite the way her stomach churned at the hisses and the scent of blood, despite the way her head spun--Bubblebeam managed to get back on her feet. She didn't really feel the pain of her shoulder now, since the shock now crept in, completely numbing any feeling other than the disgustingly warm wetness of blood oozing out of the wound. But none of that mattered, because Graywind was in trouble and in pain and it was her fault and she had to do something. Now that the fox's back was turned to her, she sank her teeth into its tail--ignoring the horrible taste and the way that the sensation made her want to retch--and pulled with all her strength. It snarled, but fell back, partially stunned from the force of the yank. "Auntie Graywind," she gasped out, still trying to catch her breath. "Are you okay?"
Bubblebeam used Tail Yank, dealing 8 damage and costing 15 stamina. Fox is stunned for 1 turn.
The agonizing pressure released from her leg, and Graywind gasped, rearing back and slamming a paw into the beast's head. One thought ran through her mind, and that thought was to end this as quickly as she could. To keep Bubblebeam or herself from sustaining worse injury.
Above the roar of blood in her ears, Graywind heard Bubblebeam's voice, "I'm... Alright. You? We need to end this, quickly." She replied, trying not to gag on the taste of blood in her mouth.
Graywind used Upright Lock for -10 sp, dealing -12 damage.
Bubblebeam didn't have the time to let out a sigh of relief at Graywind's response. They were both still up and fighting--but only barely. If this went on much longer, either of them could collapse from blood loss or shock. As much as she wanted to just curl up into a ball and whimper. They had to end this, like her aunt had said, and quickly. The fox was shaking off its stun, turning to face Bubblebeam with a ferocious glint in its eyes. Its movements were slow and staggering, though; it was injured like they were. She could see in the snarl that it had come to the same realization that they had. Life or death. If she didn't strike and end this now, before it could, then it would attack her, or worse, Graywind... and whoever was attacked might not get up. Though blood ran down her shoulder, she just had to ignore it. She grit her teeth and raised her trembling, uninjured limb, striking with unsheathed claws at the fox's face as it opened its maw to go in for the kill. The blow stopped it short, and after an agonizingly quiet moment, it dropped unmoving to the ground.
Bubblebeam used Front Paw Strike on Fox, dealing 8 damage and costing 7 stamina. Fox is defeated.

The fox finally dropped, and Graywind felt a wave of dizzyness and relief wash over her as the beast went still. Now that the fight was over, the adrenaline was quickly leaving her, and the wounds the fox had given her stung.
Golden eyes glanced toward her niece, "Are you alright, Bubblebeam? Stars, I hate foxes..."
