Honeydew T2 Warrior | SkyClan Deputy | she/her
Honeydew paced throughout camp after the dawn patrol had been sent out, ensuring all duties were being distributed and each warrior had a task throughout the day. Her gaze fell upon a group of kits playing in front of the nursery, accompanied by Hawkkit, whom the deputy had special plans for today. The kit had reached six moons, and Honeydew had chosen a great mentor for him.
It was sunhigh by the time she padded to the Tallbranch and turned back towards the camp, bustling with busy clanmates. She bunched up her hindquarters and took a massive leap up onto the branch.
"May all those cats old enough to climb trees gather beneath Tallbranch for a clan meeting!" she called out, her voice echoing around camp. Her eyes were bright and expectant as she found Hawkkit among the gathered cats.
An unfamiliar dusting of confused-disbelief briefly graced the soft lines of Hawkkit's features, bitter-sugar taste of curious envy lining the fine muscle of tongue after the meager glance from Honeydew; not entirely unusual in exchange, but enough to make the finicky little tom all the more anxious-eager-cautiously-invested. Lots of feelings, in truth! He was getting to the age where it was hard not to be overly-invested in any happening remotely resembling a ceremony, but also difficult to resist the silky-soft whisper of relief when he was never made to be the next center of attention.
Shifting idly atop the politely chilly earth, and puffing visible exhales of displeasure at the now-familiar nipping chill, Hawkkit was unable to resist the faint relief of warmth through an endless sea of anxious wriggling and shuffling beyond the worst of the awaiting crowd.

Honeydew watched Hawkkit approach the gathering of cats below her, and she raised her head to address the clan. "SkyClan," she meowed, protecting her voice throughout the clearing. "Our clan continues to grow, and today it is time to welcome a new face to the apprentice's den!" The deputy glanced again at Hawkkit, her expression encouraging. "Hawkkit, please step forward!"
Honeydew tingled with excitement. This wasn't her first ceremony, but there was something special about ushering kits into their new lives as apprentices. I can't imagine ever tiring of this, she thought as Hawkkit approached her.
"Hawkkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and thus it is time you became an apprentice. From now until you earn your warrior name, you will be known as Hawkpaw. Your mentor will be Myrtlebloom." Honeydew's pale blue eyes reached Myrtlebloom, and she gestured her friend forward with her tail.
"Myrtlebloom," Honeydew chirped as the young she-cat approached, "you are ready to take on an apprentice. You have received excellent training from Shatteredsky, and you have shown yourself to be resolute and kind of heart. You will be the mentor of Hawkpaw." The young deputy's eyes shone as she looked upon the new apprentice and mentor. "I expect that you will pass on all you know." Honeydew took a step back to allow Hawkpaw and Myrtlebloom to have their moment, and listened as the clan began to cheer the apprentice's new name.
The sun was high in the sky when Honeydew had called for the clan to gather and Myrtlebloom had been sunning on a rock. She turned her head in the direction of Tallbranch before rolling over and making her way to the meeting spot. She sat quietly as the deputy called a kit forward for their apprentice ceremony.
Myrtlebloom was half listening to the ceremony and was wanting to get back to sunning when she heard her name. Her head shot up and her eyes met Honeydew’s, ‘Did she just say my name?’ The flick of her friend’s tail answered that question. She made her way forward with a proud smile, which was briefly replaced with a crinkle of her nose when Honeydew mentioned Shatteredsky’s training.
“Hello Hawkpaw.” She softly mewed smiling down at her apprentice. “We’ll start training tomorrow, how does that sound?” Her mismatched gaze met the young tom’s. In that moment, she vowed to be the best mentor any kit could wish for. Myrtlebloom flicked her tail across Hawkpaw’s back before taking a step back to let his old and new den mates congratulate him. Myrtlebloom.
A shiny varnish of fleeting confusion graced the fine features of Hawkpaw's little face, the unthinking reactionary response largely stemming from the twinging ache of lack of familiarity- he hardly knew who this cat was! Though, truth be told, the stubbornly lingering flossy-thin current of vibrant excitement proved to be sufficient distraction, the voracious thump of self-assured relief and pleasure making him flush hot all the way to his rounded little ears.
Heavily-tufted tail kinking high above his back in an external display of sugar-frosted delight, Hawkpaw tried to keep his composure relatively appropriate as he happened up Myrtlebloom.
"Myrtlebloom," Hawkpaw mewed, gleaming with the radiance of his own eager anticipation, "that sounds great!" The contrasting height difference between the newly-established pair was a little awkward and cumbersome, especially with the lingering crowd of congratulatory onlookers, but he didn't particularly mind the outright lack of finesse or polite niceties in the moments. Of course, in the all-consuming shenanigans that ensued, it was almost easy to forget the careful procedure of manners that had been politely drilled into the hollow space between his ears over the moons. "Oh! I look forward to training with you- I'll make you proud, I promise!"
