Poppyshine
The effects of the war still lingered all around RiverClan, and it was no more apparent than now, with kits finally reaching an age to leave the nursery. What should have been a joyous occasion instead made Poppyshine’s pawpads tingle. She hoped that any new apprentice would not set a paw on a battlefield too soon.
Poppyshine carefully pulled herself up onto the Willow Branch, being mindful of the still-healing scars on her belly. She settled and then announced, “All cats old enough to catch their own fish, please gather for a Clan meeting!”
It had been growing quite cramped in the nursery for quite some time now as the kits grew older. Sometimes he would even sneak into the warriors den just to sleep with Scorchlight and Sprucebark. (Maybe he was using the lack of space as an excuse to do so, but frankly he didn't exactly need a reason to join the warriors. He never did like having his own nest.)
Still, he made sure not to be absent as Poppyshine called a meeting to the Clan. If there was an apprentice ceremony, he wanted to be there. Especially since any one of them could be his, or even one of his friends'.

Featherkit burst from the nursery in a flurry of paws and fluff, her newly groomed pelt slicked down and shining in the late leaf-bare sunlight. Her mother called after her to slow down and be careful, all the usual stuff, but Featherkit was too excited; she was about to become an apprentice! Ever since the day she and Elmkit had snuck out of camp together the little she-cat had been itching to get back out there and see the rest of the world, and now it was finally time! Slowing her speed a bit as she got closer to the Willow Branch, Featherkit smiled up at Poppyshine as she found a spot to sit at the front of the crowd, feeling the gazes of her clanmates on her back. She had spotted Elmkit in the crowd, and gave him a short tail wave, but her focus was entirely on the deputy. I wonder who my mentor is going to be...c'mon, let's get this over with so I can go explore!
Featherkit was like a blur as she dashed to the front of the crowd. Poppyshine knew that this new bout of kits were a little rowdy and she hoped that they would prove to be good apprentices and soon warrior. Poppyshine needed to choose their mentors carefully, and she had already come to the decision for each one of them.
Poppyshine smiled at Featherkit and began the ceremonial words. “Featherkit, you have reached the age of six moons. It is now time for you to be apprenticed. From this day forward, until you receive your warrior name, you shall be known as Featherpaw.” Her eyes left the newly-named apprentice brief enough to find the cat she was about to call upon. “Your mentor shall be Willowwisp, who will lead you with grace and dignity through your lessons.”
Willowwisp had been aching for an apprentice for a while now. She felt like she was a capable warrior—there were still things she fumbled on, though she did her best to remain dignified and learn to not make the mistakes again. Still, she wanted to prove her worth as a warrior to be able to take on an apprentice. Her mother had numerous, even at one time. Willowwisp wanted to prove that she was capable as well.
When she was called upon to be a mentor, Willowwisp was so surprised. She had hoped for so long that when it finally happened, it was as surprising as if she never thought about it. Swiftly she took to her paws and stepped forward from the crowd. She leaned down and delicately met her nose with Featherpaw’s. “I look forward to teaching you,” she mewed softly to the young apprentice.

Featherpaw When the deputy finally rested her gaze on Featherkit she returned Poppyshine's smile in earnest, trying to remain still as much as she could but her front paws were shuffling and her tail tip was twitching like mad. This was the moment she had been waiting on since she was born, and she knew that her Mom and Dad were behind her looking on with pride. She was going to do her very best, and be the coolest apprentice RiverClan had ever seen!
Featherpaw purred when her new name was called out for the first time, and she jumped to her paws and turned to greet her mentor, a cat called Willowwisp. She hadn't ever talked to this she-cat warrior before, but as the silver tabby calmly padded up to greet her Featherpaw could tell that she was well-respected and knew what she was doing. In a little bit of awe, Featherpaw reached up to reciprocate the nose touch and mewed back to her mentor, touching her small creamy paw to Willowwisp's flank. "And I'm looking forward to learning from you! Can we start today, please? I want to see the territory agai- uh, for the first time!"
