The purring seemed to grow even louder. He felt warm. Was this-? He couldn’t tell. It seemed like one, but he was terrified to get it wrong, to come right out and ask. This conversation was supposed to be about Cindersky and how she was doing, after all…But stars, her smile was so beautiful. Her laugh was like birdsong. No…Not now. Not today. But maybe Larkspring could get the courage soon, when she was feeling better.

“Stop. I don’t know why I’m doing this,” he mumbled, embarrassed, but he couldn’t fight his small smile too. She called him cute.
