Yet another young cat was ready to become a warrior. Shatteredsky had already been given an apprentice of his own, and he'd already determined she was fit to earn her name. The pang that came with the other recent ceremonies twisted in her chest again: pride, bleak gratefulness for more capable claws... worry for their futures. But no wasn't a moment to riddle herself with despair. Soon, they would all have cause to celebrate, even if the joy was fleeting. Leaping onto the Tallbranch, Birdstar looked across the crowd once before raising her voice to call, "All cats old enough to climb the trees, gather beneath the Tallbranch for a Clan meeting."
The winter day was quite warm and some of the snow was melting, when Birdstar called a clan meeting. Myrtlepaw shot up to her feet and ran over to tallbranch. 'Is today the day I become a warrior?' Shatteredsky was reluctant in agreeing with his leader to have Myrtlepaw become a warrior, but he supposed there was nothing he could do about it. By the standard of his Clan, Myrtlepaw's pitiful skills were enough for her to be named a warrior. He supposed he should be glad that he'd no longer have to deal with her inability to do anything at all. He settled at the edge of the crowd, showing up simply for his reputation as a mentor rather than interest in the ceremony. Hopefully, his failure in teaching that disappointment that was his first apprentice wouldn't affect his chances of getting a second one.

Birdstar noted Myrtlepaw's appearance with a brief nod, but she hesitated in gesturing the apprentice forward. Instead, her eyes drifted to linger on Shatteredsky where he sat. Her brow knit for only a moment before Birdstar refocused on his apprentice. "Myrtlepaw," she called down with a swish of her tail, "please step forward." She was quiet for a moment, allowing Myrtlepaw a few moments to do so before continuing. "I call upon our warrior ancestors to look down on our apprentice. She has trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend her to you was a warrior in turn." Then, Birdstar fixed the dappled apprentice in the same searching stare she always gave; carrying the same grimness as it did for recent passages. "Myrtlepaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code--to protect and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life?"

Myrtlepaw tried to hide her excitement when her name was called and made her way to stand in front of Birdstar. "I promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend my clan." Myrtlepaw's tail twitched in anticipation. All her hard work and painful training with her irritating mentor seemed to pay off. Today was the day she became a warrior, an equal to Shatteredsky. She peered back into the crowd and met her mentor's gaze. 'Is he even slightly proud of me? He looks like he doesn't even want to be here.' Birdstar's whiskers twitched at Myrtlepaw's lengthy agreement, a gesture that may have been amusement were it not for the dire waves pressing over the back of her thoughts. To banish the treacherous whispers, she swiftly proceeded with raising her voice again. "Then I grant you your new name as a warrior. From this day on, you will be known to all as Myrtlebloom. You are observant and quiet, and SkyClan honors these traits in you." Birdstar allowed a moment for the new warrior to take in her name before coming down from the Tallbranch. Padding over to Myrtlebloom, Birdstar gently pressed her nose to the dappled molly's head, remaining there for a moment before pulling away. "Congratulations, Myrtlebloom. May your vigil be a quiet one." She murmured quietly before stepping back to rejoin the crowd in cheering.

Myrtlebloom. Well, it was a pathetic name, more flowery than any actual quality in it. At least Birdstar wasn't blind. Shatteredsky didn't remain to congratulate his apprentice once the ceremony was over, and was swift to pad away. He had other things to do, patrols to catch up with now that he no longer had an useless apprentice taking up his time, and for what? She was as useless as the day she began.
It seemed that Shatteredsky's apprentice had gone through her training nearly as quickly as her mentor had. It was a good sign, and a new warrior was always cause for celebration. Still, the deputy could not help but worry for the future of the clan with the threat of war looming. It was kept safely off of her expression though as she called the warrior's new name with the rest of the clan. "Myrtlebloom! Myrtlebloom!"
Once the ceremony had completed, the deputy padded forward, dipping her head to the new warrior. "Well done, Myrtlebloom. May your vigil be a peaceful one tonight." She caught Shatteredsky slipping away from the ceremony out of the corner of her eye, and sighed. Rude of Shatteredsky, but now was not the place to comment on it. Myrtlebloom deserved to have the congratulations of her clanmates right now.

As Myrtlebloom looked back at her fellow clanmates, she noticed Shatteredsky slipping away. 'He can't even congratulate me.' She was dragged out of her thoughts when the clan deputy approached her. "Oh, Thank you." Myrtlebloom said dipping her head back at Wolfblossom. Myrtlebloom made her way over to her siblings and Honeydew and sat down beside them. Yewpaw beamed with pride as he watched Myrtlepaw, receive her warrior name. He couldn't think of a single apprentice who deserved it more than her. However, he couldn't ignore the disappointment that flickered in his eyes when her very own mentor slipped away without even offering congratulations. It made his lip curl in disgust and a low growl emit deep from his chest. He wanted to tear into the worthless tom and ruin his pelt beyond recognition. He wanted him to feel as much pain as his sister did - in fact, make it worse. How could a cat ruin this moment for her? Disgusting. I hope her success keeps him awake at night. She will be a better warrior than he could ever manage.
Rage lingered in his eyes. He wanted to raise to his paws and chase after Shatteredsky. Until... He glanced at his sister. His eyes darted to hers, and he could see the sadness that lingered in them as she padded towards him. He felt his heart break and his gaze soften. She needs me more than that thing needs vengeance. With a new mission to lift her spirits, he immediately tried to catch her attention.
"Congratulations - Myrtlebloom!" He exclaimed, "It suits you perfectly. It is so beautiful." He tried to sound as cheerful as possible and redirect her focus from lingering in the direction that Shatteredsky had disappeared. He doesn't deserve the thought. He shared her frustration, but he didn't want such a disgusting, pathetic cat to overshadow her special day. She deserved only the best. And, if no cat will give that to her, then it'll have to be Yewpaw. "Can I help you build a nest in the warrior's den?" He mewed. "I have the softest feathers in my own and you can take them!"

Myrtlebloom briefly leaned against her brother, "Thank you Yewpaw." She sat back up, raised her paw and gave it a few licks to calm her nerves. "Of course you can help me build my nest! Plus the feathers will help me sleep until you become a warrior since your scent will be on them." Myrtlebloom purred with a slight smile. Even though her mentor didn't seem to be proud of her, her siblings were proud enough for the whole clan and that made Myrtlebloom's heart beam with joy.
