Poppyshine


It was time for another ceremony, and Poppyshine was happy to see the next kit earn his apprentice name. Scarletkit was such a confident kit, and it would be quite welcome in the apprentice’s den. Poppyshine idly wondered if it as getting crowded in the apprentice’s den as she hoisted herself onto the Willow Branch. She’d have to talk to Perchstar about if any of the apprentices will be ready for their warrior name soon.

Poppyshine shook the thought from her head for now and focused on the ceremony at hand. She smiled and called, “Let all cats old enough to catch their own fish gather for a Clan meeting!”

At the call of a Clan meeting, Scarletkit practically charged out of the nursery-- knocking into some of his fellow kits in the process, which he brushed off with a quick "Sorry!" before taking up a position with the rest of RiverClan. Surely if this wasn't his ceremony, it would be soon; and if it was, then he had shown that he was ready and waiting.

Poppyshine


The kits as of late were so excited to be apprentices. It warmed Poppyshine’s heart. (Though she did have to turn her head to keep from laughing when she saw Scarletkit almost bowl over a couple kits as he charged out of the nursery.) She clearned her throat and looked forward again. When she caught Scarletkit’s eye, she nodded to him, indicating that yes, this was indeed your turn.

Poppyshine began, “Scarletkit, you have reached the age of six moons. It is now time for you to be apprenticed. From this day forward, until you receive your warrior name, you shall be known as Scarletpaw.” Poppyshine’s gaze briefly scanned the group of gathered cats. She had a tendency to pair warriors and new apprentices who would be considered opposites. Poppyshine wholeheartedly believed that this matter of opposites helped not only the apprentice grow and learn what they otherwise had not yet known, but also showed the warrior something new. It had worked with Stormdance and Rowansong, and Poppyshine hoped that it would prove true in this case as well. “Your mentor shall be Mistwalker; her patience and caution is quite valuable in a warrior, and she will show you all that you need to learn.”

Poppyshine nodded to him, and for a moment the sheer excitement he felt eclipsed everything else.

Finally!

As Scarletpaw stepped forward to receive his apprentice name and his mentor, he scanned the crowd for the cat in question; Mistwalker-- what a regal name. As Poppyshine said something about patience and caution, he was trying to see if he could spot her before she spotted him. But there were a lot of names and faces to remember, and he hadn't yet had the chance to familiarize himself with most of them.

"I'm going to be the best apprentice," he declared, fully intending to follow through on that claim.
