"All cats old enough to silently stalk in the shadows, please gather in the shadow of the Jaggedrock for a Clan meeting!"

Leopardsun called the Clan to attention from her favored position at the base of the Jaggedrock. Another kit was ready to be apprenticed, and she kept her eyes on the crowd; searching for the excited kit in question. It was generally a given that they would be excited, after all; most cats would only ever be apprenticed once in their lives.

Tawnyshadow watched as her daughter made her way to the Jaggedrock. Of her three daughters, Sagekit was the least competitive, but she had somehow made it to this milestone before Sloekit or Moonkit. Sagekit's black coat had been carefully groomed until it was shiny as pebbles. The queen couldn't help the bit of pride that showed itself in her eyes as she watched Sagekit.

Sagekit waited, still and patient, to be called forward. She sat straight with her tail curled over her paws as if she wasn't waiting for anything. Her bright yellow eyes were round as moons, watchful but impassive. The time would come as surely as the sun would rise. In the end, it was just another day. Though, her two identical sisters would surely feel differently, Sagekit was in the eye of their family's storm.

Right now, her mother's proud eyes were on her. So, she must be first. She was ready, short black coat groomed sleek to her small graceful frame. One of the only ways to tell her apart from her sisters, one of her little ears was still folded from how she always slept, which she would probably grow out of. Sagekit watched Leopardsun and waited quietly to hear her name.

"Sagekit, please step forward."

Leopardsun waited for the kit to take that first step, and then smiled.

"You have reached the age of six moons and are ready to become an apprentice. From this day until you earn your warrior name, you will be known as Sagepaw. Your mentor will be Dawnbright-- I trust she will pass her optimism and her loyalty onto you."

Sunflare padded forwards to congratulate his daughter and stepdaughter. “Congratulations, Dawnbright. I trust you will shape this kit of mine into a warrior I and all of ShadowClan can be proud of.”

As she expected, Leopardsun called her forward from the top of the jagged rock. And as instructed, Sagekit took a step out into the empty space in the middle of the crowd at the bottom of the rock as Leopardsun smiled down at her.

...Dawnbright, who was that? Sagepaw turned and searched the crowd. "Oh, aren't you my older sibling, you and Creekpaw?" The sisters had not met before. "Hello, Dawnbright," she greeted politely, reaching up on tiptoes to touch her small black nose to her mentor's.

Sagepaw's father congratulated Dawnbright while Sagepaw stood quietly by her older sister's side.

Tawnyshadow let out a sigh of relief when she heard Dawnbright's name. She had carefully monitered her former ward's training despite not being Dawnbright's mentor, so while the tortoiseshell wasn't the best warrior in the clan she was at the very least a good one. Good enough to take care of Sagepaw for now.

Tawnyshadow padded up to her two daughters. "That's right, Dawnbright and Creekpaw are your older siblings. I trust you won't give your sister too much trouble, Sagepaw," She mewed, a hint of sterness in her voice. Sagepaw had never been the rowdy type, but apprenticehood certainly could change a lot about a cat.

With that said, she rested her tail on her mate's shoulder and guided him away from the duo. They needed to give both of them time to get used to their new roles. In the meantime, they should probably check up on Moonkit and Sloekit.

Leopardsun's choice seemed to satisfy both of Sagepaw's parents. Which meant, Dawnbright was a decent mentor. Pride didn't concern Sagepaw; she knew she could become a decent warrior too.

Her mother answered her question. Of course, Sagepaw could recognise her sister Dawnbright, and Tawnyshadow's confirmation was no surprise.

She gave Sagepaw a stern warning, though her mother did not seem really concerned. Sagekit nodded, unbothered by Tawnyshadow's tone. She would be sensible, of course, and a reminder of good conduct never hurt anyone. The new apprentice stood a little straighter.

Then their parents were gone. It was just Sagepaw and Dawnbright. "When do we start?" she inquired matter-of-factly, not bothered with whatever time her older sister chose.

Dawnbright lowered her head to touch noses with Sagepaw. She was quite surprised, in a good way, when she heard Leopardsun assign the newly-named apprentice to her. She had heard some word going around the camp that her sisters would be apprenticed soon, but she never expected to be chosen, out of all the other Shadowclan warriors that probably had more experience in mentoring apprentices.

Going over to the apprentice, Dawnbright greeted Sagepaw enthusiastically. "Hello there Sagepaw."

Her adopted mother and Sunflare came over to congratulate them. Not long after, Tawnyshadow and Sunflare went, leaving Sagepaw with her mentor. "Training will start at dawn tomorrow and I'll teach you everything you need to know." The silver tortoiseshell warrior told her apprentice before padding away.

Dawnbright seemed happy to have her name called. Her sister greeted her enthusiastically. Would the cheerful silver warrior try to bring Sagepaw out of her shell? she wondered.

The new apprentice accepted the time given for training. She would have expected dusk, but it was supposed to be darkest before dawn, so maybe it wasn't a bad time. And maybe Dawnbright was busy all tomorrow night.

Her sister padded away with a promise to teach Sagepaw everything. Learning the territory, the borders, the basics of hunting and fighting, all before dawn finished breaking? The slender black she-cat shrugged gracefully, she could be efficient.

She was unsure for only a moment what to do as cats dispersed around her. She would find a nest in the apprentice's den and get something to eat. Sagepaw moseyed over to bramble thicket where ShadowClan's apprentices slept.

There were a paw-full of apprentices who already lived there, enough to be cosy with enough space left for her. She ducked out from the dug-out hollow under the brambles, picked up a rat, and settled quietly to eat. Her yellow eyes glanced around for any of her new den-mates, but she was not worried about eating alone.
