Searching for a friend[Open]

Valley finally decided to check up on his supposed friend again. It had been moons since that disaterous trip to the nearby town, but he hoped it couldn't have been all bad. Not bad enough for Batswarm to never want to see his face again, surely. While waiting for the tortoiseshell tom, the tabby tasted the air for signs of prey. He spotted a mouse not too far away. Easy food, he thought to himself as he sprang towards the rodent. He killed it swiftly, and was settling down for a meal when the sound of pawsteps alerted him.

Sunflare slunk out of the shadows, standing up at his full height before the trespasser. “I thought I warned you never to set your paws on ShadowClan territory,” he growled, eyes boring into the other cat. “You have one chance. Leave now.”

Valley's eyes narrowed as his gaze raked over the skinny cinnamon tom before him. "I'm just here looking for a friend. After I know where he is, I'll leave," He mewed calmly, tail flicking back and worth while he waited for the tom to answer. He unseathed his claws just in case.

"Enough with the threats, Sunflare! Burdockroot and I have enough to deal with. We don't need another patient if you do say the wrong thing." On the hunt for herbs that seemed to run out the moment she set them down, Harriertalon felt more than exasperated that ShadowClan would have a trespasser at a time like this. There was no time to do anything, was there? She guessed she did sign up for this.

Her tail flicked once as she stood with tired green eyes. "Tell me the name of this 'friend' of yours. I'll relay the message for you as long as you make yourself scarce immediately."

A black she-cat joined them, and proceeded to scold the cinnamon tom. Valley's tail twitched uneasily as he listened to the she-cat. He wouldn't get his friend in trouble, would he? "His name's Batswarm, has a calico pelt?" He answered.

The mere mention of her dear brothers name made her heart feel heavy. She had only just buried him alongside his sister maybe a moonrise ago. The memory was still fresh.

Batswarm hadn't had many friends, if he even had them at all. But one thing did stand out to her: "Then I met a cat named Valley. He was hanging around Carrion Place for some reason..." Something Batswarm had mentioned in his confession of why he'd been coming home with foreign scents on him and how he had felt about clan life. Then that would mean... "...You must be Valley." She felt sorry for the tabby tom; there was no way to know when a clan cat died if an outsider had befriended them. She didn't know how break this new to him considering she herself wanted to cry every time she thought of it.

Green eyes closed for a brief moment as Harriertalon took a deep breath in, opening them again once she was sure the tears would not fall. "My brother is- Batswarm is no longer amongst the living. I'm sorry." Her voice was soft, refusing to break in front of a complete stranger. Especially in front of Sunflare: it was obvious the new warrior had said something to make Batswarm openly voice negative opinions on Nightstar after the last fullmoon gathering, when Batswarm was no someone to care about such thing.

Valley blinked, the she-cat's words still processiong. Batswarm, dead? They had only talked twice, and they weren't that close, but... Valley would miss that beautiful tom. His face was a mask of calmness as he replied, "And how did he die?" How did Batswarm die? If it was a fox or badger, he could hunt it and kill it easily. But if it was a cat... things would be a bit more diffcult, but not impossible. Valley wanted to laugh at the sheer irony of it all. He had traveled across the country, only to return to his same old habits.

Sunflare’s hackles raised. “That is no concern of yours. You were told to make yourself scarce immediately.” He didn’t make a move or any further threats, not with Harriertalon right there. Nightpaw might be a traitor, but Sunflare had no reason to go against either medicine cat.

How did he die? Brutally. Both her brother and sister had come home shredded into pieces that she had to put back together. But she wouldn't tell that to a cat she only just met today. Sunflare was absolutely right: it was no bus to Valley. Unfortunately, this seemed to be Batswarms one and only friend. "With honor." A lie. No one that took part in the WindClan border squirmish died with honor. Not when it was over the egos of their deputy and leader. "Remove yourself from ShadowClan territory. This side of the forest is in no mood to entertain any more trespassers, unfortunately." She sighed, tapping Sunflare with the tip of her tail. For now, she wanted to leave it up to the rogue to depart by himself. Otherwise, he may not make it out unscathed of anyone else found him.

With honor? No death is ever with honor. Valley's face remained emotionless as he process the information. It was likely that Batswarm had died in a fight, judging from the black she-cat's answer. And it was definetly not by the claws of a predator. "I see," he replied calmly. The tom dipped his head to the she-cat, then left the territory as instructed.
