Rustling Of Tender Foliage[C]

Cedarpaw padded toward the camp entrance, set on finding a large patch of moss to terrorize. Acornstem had just told him out to collect moss for the nursery and he would do just that! Though he'd been told to keep close to the camp, what with all the tension between the clans right now. That and foxes - or badgers probably.

So, off he went in search of the softest, most perfect moss.

Oh! Someone was out there! Cedarpaw bristled slightly, he hadn't noticed anyone leave the camp, certainly not the dawn patrol as they were still being gathered. So, treading softly, he crept closer with perked ears. Then, as he got closer, the voices were a bit clearer and Cedarpaw recognized them as his clanmates.

Instantly, his fur flattened and he let out a soft purr of amusement. It was just Copperlark and Amberpaw - two of his best friends!

Loudly, so as not to frighten them, Cedarpaw pushed his way through the thorn barrier and out of the camp where his friends were chatting. "Hey! I didn't expect to see you guys here, what's up?" He eyed the flowers at Copperlark's paws, then the one tucked behind Amberpaw's ear.

Ohhhh. Was he interrupting something important here? Then again, Copperlark had always been known to give flowers to her friends. That being said - one of those flowers was definitely for Shrewpaw, those two cats were always around each other.

Cedarpaw started as Shrewpaw bustled into the little group, chattering brightly about Amberpaw's flower. He cocked his head, curiosity shining in his gaze unable to ignore the hint of envy in her voice. He could understand that, he sometimes got upset too when he saw his friends spending time without him.

Of course, it was necessary sometimes to have one-on-one every now and then.

He watched as Copperlark bestowed Shrewpaw with a flower of her very own, silently agreeing with her assessment. It was true, Shrewpaw seemed to be full of hope and plenty of it to go around.  

Then, Copperlark starting talking to him. Was he getting a flower too? Cedarpaw peered down at the final remaining plant, confused. It wasn't a flower...it looked like a normal plant with leaves segmented into three fluffy looking portions.

"Hidden worth." He murmured softly. What did Copperlark mean by that? He looked up to meet her gaze as she picked up the little green plant and placed it behind his ear. He sat very still as she did so and once she was done, he dipped his head slightly. "Th-thank you. I'll take good care of it."

Just as he prepared himself to say something else, Amberpaw cut in, announcing that they should all hunt together. He nodded after a moment, agreeing with the younger tom. Oh, yes! That's a good idea."

The red and white tom ushered the intruding thoughts from his mind. It was a good thing Amberpaw had said something before he could, he'd almost completely forgotten that it wasn't just him and Copperlark here. Besides, he was right that they never got to hang out all together like this.

Cedarpaw could barely remember the last time he got to spend time with Copperlark...

Cedarpaw, who prided himself on being able to read his friend's feelings, didn't take notice to Shrewpaw's discomfort at all, too wrapped up in trying to figure out the meaning of Copperlark's gift. After everyone had agreed, they set out, an odd group of one very young warrior and three bird-loving apprentices to go hunting.

Though still lost in thought, Cedarpaw happened to look at Amberpaw as he beckoned to him. Huh? Curious, Cedarpaw slowed from a trot to a leisurely walk, easily falling in beside Amberpaw.

Brows drawn, Cedarpaw glanced furtively at his friend, then to Copperlark and Shrewpaw, who had started discussing something of their own in hushed tones. Bowing his head close to Amberpaw's, Cedarpaw began quietly, "What's up?"

The red and white tom was curious to hear what the two she-cats were talking about, but he'd just have to ask later, Amberpaw clearly had something important to talk to him about. Suddenly, Cedarpaw stiffened.

"If it's about a mouse, I didn't do it." The tom smiled weakly. He totally did do it. He'd absolutely snagged and hoarded an entire mouse all to himself the other day without offering to share with anyone! Though he didn't feel one ounce of guilt about it. That mouse had been delicious.
