slow and steady [hunting]

Mistpaw followed the patrol out of SkyClan's camp, trying to ignore the lingering voice in the back of her mind that said this was a bad idea. That part of her wanted to retreat to safety, to the warmth of her nest in the apprentice's den or the underside of a bush; where she could watch the world without being seen, and without having to interact with it.

But she was being silly, she knew that. She couldn't hide away forever, even if she wanted to, and she wasn't alone. While that thought was rarely a comfort (they were her Clanmates, yes, but Mistpaw preferred to keep a respectable distance from most), Stoneheart's steady presence was.

Still, if this went badly...

Then she would stay in her nest forever, or at least as long as she could before someone came to drag her out.

She caught the scent of a bird, and then she saw it. It hadn't noticed her yet.

The apprentice pounced, pinning her prey easily beneath her paws; the following killing blow was delivered more on instinct than anything.

Still, she'd successfully caught her first ever prey. Even if it came far too late by most cats' standards, that meant something.

Thornstalker followed the rest of the patrol out of camp. While she might have been one of the older warriors here, she still preferred for others to take the lead. She would always support from the back so to speak.

As they broke off for hunting, the small warrior gave a nod to Mistpaw, who seemed catch something right away. Good, she would make a fine hunter one day. Thornstalker was quick to find her own prey, catching sight of a bird in the trees, with a quick leap into the trees, the warrior pounced for the bird. She was quick to pin and kill it, returning to the ground to bury her prey.

Stoneheart followed the patrol out into the forest quietly, padding alongside her sister. Mistpaw had been an apprentice for quite some time now, and the differences in their duties and schedules meant they didn't get to spend as much time together as Stoneheart would've liked, so she was glad that Wolfblossom had assigned them to the same patrol.

It wasn't long before Mistpaw split from the patrol to find her own prey, and a rare grin formed as Stoneheart watched her sibling's successful catch. "Nice!" She purred quietly, mindful of Thornstalker finding her own prey nearby, but still excited to see her sister finally have a bit of success. Stoneheart turned away, now in search of something to catch herself. Spotting a bird in the lower branches of a tree, the warrior leapt into the branches and began to carefully make her way toward it.

Their luck had run out however, as a hawk must've had a nest near. With a hiss, Stoneheart leaped forward, meeting the bird's talons with claws of her own. The hawk wasn't prey, but she'd be happy to use the feathers for nest lining if she couldn't hunt the bird she originally had gone after.

Stoneheart attempted to catch a bird for -3 sp, catch was unsuccessful and summoned a hawk.

Firepool was, apparently, leading the patrol out of camp into the forest, which had him flicking his tail just a little too hard. It wasn't as if he was giving orders at least, cats went off on their own, they did their own thing. He trusted his clanmates to not fall into a hole or something of the sort. Just as he scented his own prey, he heard the hiss of a battle beginning. Looking up into nearby trees, Stoneheart was battling a hawk. With a hiss under his own breath, Firepool climbed a near tree quickly, readying himself to spring at the hawk at his first opportunity.

He saw his opportunity, and without hesitation, the tom leapt at the hawk, gripping it with his claws, and bringing it slamming onto the branch. Carefully moving his tail from side to side, he struggled to keep his balance with the hawk under him. They were far enough from the ground that landing well could still mean spraining a paw. That was not exactly an outcome he wanted.

Firepool used Leap and Hold, dealing 7 damage, and using 15 stamina! The hawk is pinned for 2 turns!

Just as she thought this might be a simple outing, even a pleasant and successful one, Mistpaw's hopes crashed into the ground once again- at precisely the same time as the hawk did. Seeing her sister in danger, she leapt into the fight. Panic made her attack blindly, but she at least managed to strike her target instead of her Clanmates.

Mistpaw used Front Paw Strike, dealing 6 damage and costing 7 SP!
