It was time for another kit to move up in the ranks and join the apprentices. Poppyshine felt comfortable doing apprentice ceremonies, and so she almost felt relaxed as she ascended the Willow Branch. With a pleasant smile, and a hope that her tired eyes were not all too obvious to her clanmates, she called out, “Let all cats old enough to catch their own fish gather for a Clan meeting.”

Sprucebark's ears flicked hearing the call for a clan meeting from his mom.

He slowly pushed himself up to his paws. He still felt miserable from the recent loss of his sister. He had been taking Poppyshine's advise though and just resting for now. It felt weird and foreign to not be on patrols or have his routine schedule, but he had to admit that he did need the rest.

He sat near the back in attendance, it would be against the rules to miss a clan meeting and he was all about the rules of course. He hoped this would be good news... perhaps more info about perchstar had been found but he highly doubted it.

The nursery had grown astoundingly crowded over the past few moons. Just as leaf-bare ended and life returned to the forest, kits followed suit. There was an evident surplus, and it had grown uncomfortable for some of the larger kits. Storkkit fit into that category. Although she was average in size, her age as one of the older inhabitants had not gone unnoticed. She'd enjoyed her simple life so far, but she was excited to advance on to the next stage. As she heard the call for the ceremony, it wasn't clear whether the ceremony was meant for her or not, but she enjoyed attending nontheless.

She sat down in the middle of the crowd, surrounding herself with her clanmates. She felt more comfortable, more confident that way. Her eyes flickered towards Poppyshine, awaiting the older cat's next words.

Once Poppyshine ensured that Storkkit was present, she continued. She caught the kit’s attention and gestured for her to step forth. “Storkkit,” she announced, “you have reached the age of six moons. It is now time for you to be apprenticed.” Perhaps seeing more kits move up into apprenticehood would being more ease and confidence to the clan. “From this day forward, until you receive your warrior name, you shall be known as Storkpaw. Your mentor will be Toadlegs.” Her gaze found the warrior in question. “His youth and excitement will guide you well towards warriorhood.”

She finally stepped down from the branch and let Storkpaw join the celebrations.

Sprucebark tried to be happy for the occasion. This was his friends special day. And he was happy for Storkkit. But the longing that this meeting was about Perchstars return was a hope all too soon not coming true.

He congratulated his friend, toad would be a good mentor hopefully for the new apprentice.

Toadleg’s heart dropped straight to his feet at the announcement, a little jittery as he wobbled up to meet Storkpaw halfway. He smiled– or, well, he tried to, but it may have looked more like a grimace– and gave her forehead a soft touch with his muzzle. Reedtail had done that to him when they first met, and he had seen other mentors do it too, so it must’ve been a ritual; Stars above, he had no idea what he was doing! He had just become a warrior himself, and now Poppyshine wants him to help bring up another apprentice? In his image?! ”It’s nice to meet you, Storkpaw.” Toadlegs mewed after a moment of trying to figure out what to say. ”We’ll begin training soon; I’ll come and get you when it’s time!”
