Subject: Moonkit's Apprentice Ceremony Sun 8 Jan 2023 - 11:12
It was interesting, Leopardsun noted, how quickly things could become routine: in the time they'd been residing at Highstones, she had quickly found a favorite place for meetings, as much as she still wished they were home in the hollow that formed their camp. "ShadowClan! All cats old enough to silently stalk in the shadows, please gather around for a Clan meeting!"
Another of her kits had proven to be ready for apprenticeship, and as reluctant as she was to let go of them there wasn't anything to be done about that.

Moonkit had been waiting for her mother's call, knowing that she and her siblings were on the verge of being able to become apprentices. She'd taken care that her soft, dark gray and silver tabby fur was groomed, padding over to the gathering crowd to gaze up at Shadowclan's deputy with a hopeful excitement shining in her green eyes. There were six of them, and even more kits in what passed for a nursery, so maybe it wouldn't be her... But it wouldn't hurt to be ready.

"Moonkit," Leopardsun purred with affection, "please step forward."
Of course the kits knew their turn to become apprentices was fast approaching, and she was unsurprised when her daugher's shining eyes met her own. Giving her a moment to step forward as requested, the deputy then continued.
"You have reached the age of six moons and are ready to become an apprentice. From this day until you earn your warrior name, you will be known as Moonpaw. Your mentor will be Iceheart- I trust she will pass all that she knows onto you."
Iceheart was a reasonable and level-headed cat, someone easy to entrust one of her own kits to.

Her name was called, and Moonkit felt elated. Her ceremony! Moonkit stepped forward, an excited bounce to her step. The kit practically vibrated with energy as her mother continued to speak. No longer would she be a kit, but an apprentice, learning to hunt and fight and be the best that Shadowclan had. Moonpaw, now, turned, gaze excitedly searching the crowd for the cat Leopardsun had named. She didn't know Iceheart, but surely she would be an excellent mentor and teach her everything.

((I’m assuming this occurs right after aster’s own ceremony))
Watching from the back of the crowd, the newly named Asterpaw heard her sister being called forwards. Moonkit. Perhaps if Moonkit had been apprenticed before her, the young ShadowClanner’s heart might’ve been thrumming with anxiety- but as it was, Asterpaw was already secure in the knowledge that she had obtained the best possible mentor in the entire Clan. She did hope that Moonkit would also receive a good warrior as a mentor, one perhaps friends with her own- Mother would make a wise decision, she was certain.
Moonpaw might not have known who Iceheart was, but Asterpaw had always been one for listening (and watching) from the shadows. She did think she had seen the brown and white she-cat around with Nightstar at least once. Promising. For now, however, Asterpaw padded forwards, bumping her shoulder lightly against her sister’s. “Congratulations.” The simple word would suffice- Asterpaw had never been a chatty one.

Iceheart attended most apprentice ceremonies, even though she was not very familiar with most of the kits in the clan. It was still important to keep up with them. Apprentices today would be her fellow warriors tomorrow. She knew that Leopardsun’s kits were finally of age to be apprentices as well, so it was important for Iceheart to be in attendance…especially this one, as Moonkit—now Moonpaw—was to be Iceheart’s new apprentice.
It surprised her, really. Iceheart, despite being one of the most senior cats of ShadowClan, had only had a single apprentice in her time. She had taken her time with Honeypaw to really ensure he understood the importance of his training. The Dark Forest invasion had not helped much in accelerating his training either, nor had the earthquake or the flood…A lot had gotten in the way of Honeypaw becoming Honeylight. And now, a couple of moons after he had earned his warrior name, she was now receiving a new apprentice…after Honeylight had already gone missing. Her stomach twisted at the thought. She knew Honeylight would return, just as Nightstar had. In the meantime, she could not let the association get in the way of her training with the newly-named Moonpaw.
Iceheart stepped forward. “Hello,” she greeted. She leaned down and touched her nose to Moonpaw’s. “I will teach you all I can. I bet you’ll be just as skilled as your mother.” She gave the young apprentice a smile. Iceheart could almost not remember how she felt when she finally became an apprentice, but she was probably nervous and excited at the same time. Some reassurance would do Moonpaw some good.
