Lighttail and Iceheart. Not exactly a dream team. Sure, they’d been on a patrol or two together, but Lighttail could say that of just about any of her clanmates. So she wasn’t entirely sure why she’d invited the older she-cat to hunt tonight. Maybe she just wanted to get to know her better. After all, Lighttail’s friend Honeylight certainly saw something in her. The moon shimmered down, shadows painting the undergrowth. Lighttail was ready for a hunt.

Iceheart did feel a bit bad that she had not tried to get to know Lighttail better of the moons. Once upon a time when she was young, she learned who everyone in her clan was and did her best to speak with them. Then times changed, bad things happened to Iceheart, and the simple act of speaking with her clanmates became a chore. Things had improved significantly recently, despite the awful circumstances plaguing the clan, and Iceheart found that it was almost easy to speak with cats again. Lighttail inviting her to go for a hunt was a delight, and she hoped to do her best to get to know the young warrior.
It was nice being back in ShadowClan territory again for some hunting. Iceheart hoped that it would spell good things for them. She kept an eye out for any traps littered around the territory and then looked to Lighttail.
“How have you been doing?” Iceheart asked, keeping her voice low so as to not disturb any prey that they may come across.

Lighttail shrugged her shoulders, tail flicking slightly as she stared off into space. “I’m doing as well as I can,” she mewed plainly. “Mother getting her memory back has certainly been a weight off my shoulders, but now my brother and his apprentice have been captured. I don’t know if you realize this, but I’ve had five brothers in my lifetime and lost every last one of them. But anyway, I didn’t drag you out here to hear me rant, I promise! I’m just a bit overwhelmed.” Lighttail put her nose to the ground, green eyes darting from one bush to another, searching for any sign of prey. Bingo. She’d picked up the scent of mouse. Carefully, the silver she-cat stalked in the direction of her prey.
However, something else was out hunting tonight, and unsuspecting Lighttail practically stepped on it in the dark. The weasel was not amused and latched onto Lighttail’s paw, refusing to let go. The cat let out a yowl in surprise.
Weasel used Gripping Bite, dealing 7 damage and costing 15 stamina.

Lighttail 43/50 HP (-7) 120/120 SP

Iceheart had been vaguely aware of the string of tragedy that had followed Snowfoot and her children, but she was not close enough with her or with Lighttail to realize just how much. Iceheart wanted to offer condolences in some way. She was trying to figure out what to say when Lighttail finish hunting when instead her yelp alerted Iceheart. The weasel was unexpected, and Iceheart quickly dashed to Lighttail’s side and clamped her teeth down on the weasel’s tail. She yanked back as hard as she could, pulling the stunned weasel off of Lighttail in the process.
Iceheart used Tail Yank, dealing 10 damage and costing 15 SP.

With the weasel off, Lighttail took a few pawsteps back, then lunged, smacking into it with full force behind her paws. She could feel several little bones breaking as the creature could do nothing but writhe in pain.
Lighttail used Jumping Strike, dealing 8 damage and costing 7 stamina. Weasel is stunned.

With the weasel still stunned, Iceheart swiftly followed up with another sharp bite to its neck, just as she would with prey. The weasel’s writhing immediately ceased and Iceheart dropped its limp form from her jaws. “Seems even predators won’t give us a break anymore,” she meowed with a sigh. “Are you alright?” A simple bite from a weasel shouldn’t need too much attention, but better to check before they continue their patrol.
Iceheart used Snap, dealing 10 damage and costing 7 SP. The weasel is dead.

Lighttail nodded. “I should be fine. I’ll probably check with Burdockroot when we get back, but it doesn’t seem to deep.” There was a little blood, but ultimately it could have been far worse. Nudging the dead weasel with a paw, Lighttail mewed, “I don’t think I’ve ever helped kill a weasel before. Can… we eat this?”

Iceheart looked to the weasel and nodded. “Meat is meat. It pelt will be good for lining a nest as well, especially in these colder months. You may have the pelt when we get back, if you would like…In the meantime, we should try and get some regular prey as well. Weasel meat will be tough, and softer prey will be tastier.” Iceheart looked over her shoulder and scanned the forest around them. The traps around the area still made her nervous.

Lighttail stiffened a bit at the mention of the pelt. “No… no thanks. I’m not exactly a pelt-keeping cat.” She wasn’t. After what had happened to Snowfoot, Lighttail wasn’t exactly keen on the idea of speeding much time with a pelt. To many memories. Shaking out her pelt, she turned back to Iceheart. “Maybe you should try this time. My luck seems pretty bad.”

Iceheart caught the shiver from Lighttail and pushed any further mention of the pelt from her mind. She felt a bit guilty keeping the pelt for herself, especially in leafbare, but if Lighttail truly did not want it then Iceheart would not press.
She lifted her nose to the air and breathed deeply. There was prey not too far away. She began to move toward it and hoped that they would come across no further trouble. She recognized the scent before she even saw it: rabbits. Iceheart could make a joke at this point about how she should have been born a WindClan cat with how many rabbits she caught over the moons, but the joke would not work given her build. Besides…WindClan was a sore subject these days.
Iceheart caught sight of the rabbit through the brush. She moved in carefully, each paw pressing into the soft marshy mud, and then she suddenly leapt it. Her teeth sank into its neck with practiced precision and the animal fell limp. She lifted the prey in her jaws and reported back to Lighttail. “We won’t be empty-pawed, at least,” she meowed as she dropped it with the dead weasel.
