A Mother’s Love (solo)

Snowfoot sat at the edge of where the ShadowClan warriors slept at Highstones, watching one particular chest rise and fall. Lighttail. The silver she-cat had done so much to keep Snowfoot safe and now fresh memory told the older warrior it ran much deeper than that. Lighttail was her daughter. Her baby. She had been so angry when she found the kits abandoned in the marsh, but now she’d emotionally abandoned the one remaining kit herself. What kind of a mother was she? Silently, she padded between sleeping forms and settled next to Lighttail. She licked her grown-up baby on the head and began to purr and softly hum a lullaby her mother had sung to her when she was little.

Lighttail stirred awake to a raspy tongue on her head and a comforting presence beside her. Certain she must be dreaming, she lay still and listened as Snowfoot hummed. She began to cry as it became clear to her just how real this was. “Mama,” she sobbed, pressing into Snowfoot’s chest. She remembered.
