Recuperation [Sitewide]

Days had passed since the twoleg scourge descended upon Fourtrees. Sounds of machines and foreign voices still lingered in the air, as did the smell of engines and metal. It was clear the forest was not safe, at least not entirely. Though the Sandy Hollow did not reek of twolegs the way Fourtrees now did, an observant cat would notice the metallic glimmer of well-placed traps and the occasional trail of flattened plants from a twoleg’s heavy steps.

Watch out! The twolegs are still occupying the forest, laying traps for unsuspecting cats. A hunting roll of 7, 8 or 9 in any forest territory will result in either an encounter with a twoleg or getting caught in a trap! These encounters will not result in your character’s capture, they are only there to keep them on their toes.

Sagekit was sick of this moving business. First they’d fled to Fourtrees, and from there to the Sandy Hollow! Moving meant change, and both times the change was unexpected. Sagekit was not good at change. She still had nightmares about the noise of the Twolegs and the feel of the earth shaking. And now, she was sitting in the Sandy Hollow, lining up interesting plants with one paw and rhythmically patting the sand with the other. The fluffy fawn kit rocked back and forth a little as she tuned out everything around her to focus on her plants.

Beetleshade paced the hollow, kicking up sand with every enraged step she took. First she'd been passed up for deputyship by Thistlemask, then she'd had her world promptly shattered and been forced to live at Fourtrees for entirely too long, now there were Starclan-cursed twolegs roaming the forest like they owned it. Could things get any worse?? It seemed to Beetleshade that the odds were against her at every turn. She was sure there was some bitter cat in Starclan who'd been wronged by one of her ancestors and was now making it their personal mission to make sure she never got anything she wanted ever. It was a load of mouse-droppings if you asked her.

Plopping down onto her rump like a petulant child to resist the urge to attack something, she resorted to glaring at anything and everything that came near her. It didn't exactly solve anything, but it was better than nothing.

In the days since their escape from Fourtrees, Nightdancer's lethargy had caught up to her once again. She was quiet, and mostly still, having carved out a tiny pocket of their makeshift camp to rest in silence. The disaster, the loss- did it ever end? She was keenly aware that not every cat in ThunderClan had safely made it here, and that would haunt her. There was a bitter taste on her tongue at the thought, that perhaps those strange brambles they'd carried were what had once stolen Eggdrop away.

Despair had become second nature, as she looked to the sky and pawed silently at the sand in front of her. Courage was a warrior's virtue, not meant for her; she'd risen from her haze just long enough for a coward's flight from the scene.

(She was skill and spirit. Her skills hadn't faded yet, but it felt as though her spirit had vanished altogether.)
