Another day of Poppyshine ill in the medicine den... another day when Perchstar had even more duties to take on. She used to be able to use her responsibilities a way to hide from the emotions chasing her down, but now, they only reminded her of the deputy who should have been healthy and smiling on the branch instead of her. Stars, Perchfall. Get it together. All she could do was move forward. And right now, that involved another apprentice ceremony. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own fish gather for a Clan meeting," she called, keeping her face neutral.

Swirlkit finished licking her unruly fur down and walked sedately to the crowd of cats gathering beneath the willow branch. She was sure it was her apprentice ceremony this time: she had turned six moons a few sunrises ago, and had been coming to every clan meeting without fail since then. Not even her worry about Poppyshine could dampen her spirits when she was finally going to become a apprentice.

Perchstar focused on the kit who stepped out of the nursery, anchoring herself on the traditional words of the ceremony as if they were some kind of lifeline. "Swirlkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Swirlpaw. Your mentor will be Sprucebark. I trust that he will pass down all he knows to you." Maybe a new apprentice would get the illness of Poppyshine off of her son's mind.... Everyone could use something to focus on in times of stress.

Sprucebark eagerly sat with his clanmates as the meeting began. He was so happy when he learned that riverclan would be getting another apprentice! He was very glad that Perchstar was covering the apprentice ceromonies while his mom (Poppyshine) recovered

His eyes widened a little suprised when he found out that he was going to have the honor of being the mentor. He purred very happy and walked over to Swirlpaw.

"Its good to meet you! I have no doubt we will make a great pair and I hope to teach you lots" he said very excited.

"Come along Ill help you set up your new home in the apprentice den and get your nest all set up there. And soon we can begin our training! he purred leading her over to the apprentice den where she could pick out a nice spot
