Nightstar was taking his apprentice out for another training session. He had heard from his warriors that Sablepaw had taken up sparring with whoever he set his paws on, which while impressive, he had concerns that eventually, Sablepaw might hurt himself if he didn't get a new roster of moves soon. So he lead his apprentice to Carrionplace, hoping to put some signs of life there since a rogue had crossed into it somewhat recently. Rolling his shoulders, Nightstar turned to face Sablepaw and sat down, contemplating in his head how he wanted to show his apprentice some new material. "Sablepaw, I'll be teaching you some more advanced material today, but I'm wondering if you'd like me to show you, or if you want to learn them through application. A spar, perhaps."

Their last outing hadn't gone quite as well as Sablepaw had expected. One moment he had been told that they would avoid a scuffle at all costs, and the next Nightstar had been approaching the border, ready to start a war over the disrespect of an idiotic Windclan cat. It had been hard to scrub that scene from his memory, but he was willing to forget about it. Sablepaw was sure that there was a reason for it, Nightstar wouldn't incite a war over something as petty as that. Nightstar was a great leader, the best the forest had to offer, even if he had been a little distant over the course of Sablepaw's apprenticeship. The warrior was trying now, and that was more than enough for him. Sablepaw tried to hold back his excitement as Nightstar mentioned sparring. He had trained countless nights with the warriors in camp in preparation for this moment, the moment he would show his mentor what he could do. With an eager nod, Sablepaw responded. "Yes, a spar would be great."

"Then let's spar. You can get the first hit so you have a chance to even show me what you can do. I won't go easy on you." Nightstar got to his paws, smirking at his apprentice smugly briefly before he moved into a crouch. Despite saying he wouldn't go easy on his apprentice, he'd probably would, this was meant to be a learning experience, not a spar where he smacked down his apprentice beyond disrepair, confidence wise.

Sablepaw didn't miss that smug expression, it forced him to hold back a smile of his own. Nightstar had no clue what he had been practicing with the others, or that he had practiced at all. For all his mentor knew, Sablepaw had been idling around camp every day. This was the chance that he had been waiting for, and he would seize it. Seeing Nightstar fall into his stance, Sablepaw promptly leaped at the warrior with outstretched paws.

Sablepaw used Jumping Strike on Nightstar, dealing 9 HP (6+3 for first attack) and costing 7 SP

It was unavoidable to hold back, it seemed, and perhaps, he considered, that if Sablepaw found out or felt that Nightstar was holding back there'd be some sort of The Dark Forest to pay. Nightstar took Sablepaw's attack, though he considered moving to dodge it, he'd let the apprentice hit him. Nightstar stepped back, and leaped behind Sablepaw, fastening his teeth around the apprentices tail and yanking his poor apprentice back.

Nightstar used Tail Yank, stunning Sablepaw for 1 turn. Dealing 13 (10+1+2)damage and costing 15 Stamina.

His blow landed, but Nightstar seemed unfazed by it. It was odd, even in his spars against other warriors they had at least had something to say, or a reaction. Nightstar just took the hit stoically. It was enough to shock Sablepaw, but what came next was even worse. The teeth clamped on his tail and the yanking sent him reeling. A sudden flash of energy filled him, and without thinking too much on his next move, Sablepaw used it to ram into Nightstar.
