Joint training session (Closed)

Nightstar had called for his apprentice to collect Snowfoot and Burnpaw for a training session. The leader wanted Sablepaw to teach Burnpaw what he had been learning so far, while also taking the opportunity for Sablepaw to know and understand what each move was and did. What better way than to teach your peers? Once the three cats gathered at the camp entrance, Nightstar lead the small patrol to the Hidden outcropping, it was the perfect training ground which was considerably drier than most of Shadowclans territory, a good way for them to learn flexibility fighting in different environments.

Sitting amongst the rocks, Nightstar beckoned his council member, Snowfoot to sit with him so that they may discuss Burnpaw and Sablepaws fighting abilities. "I know this is Burnpaw's first fighting lesson, Sablepaw, so please do not be too rough. Take Burnpaw's learning experience to sharpen your teaching skills, you will need them someday. But I'd recommend opening the session with a spar to see Burnpaw's abilities." He meowed, watching the two toms levelly, and thinking that perhaps, this situation reminded him a lot of his own experiences.

“Nightstar’s right, the goal is for you two to learn from each other,” Snowfoot agreed. “And remember, this isn’t a life-or death battle. If you miss a move or just don’t have a skill yet, that’s okay. Just do your best.”

Burnpaw was ecstatic to learn his first battle moves. He had just become an apprentice a sunrise ago. Even though this was his first battle training session Burnpaw wanted to do his best. He hoped he wouldn't fall.

Sablepaw nodded to Nightstar. He wasn't very comfortable with teaching his brother how to fight, especially since he knew the bare minimum, but if he had to then so be it. "You heard him, Burnpaw. I'll let you get the first hit in, show me what you got." Sablepaw lowered himself slightly, entering a defensive stance.

Nightstar watched silently, barely acknowledging what Snowfoot had said, as he waited for the two to begin their spar.

Remembering to keep his claws sheathed, Burnpaw jumped toward Sablepaw. Embarrassment engulfed him as he tripped when landing. "Mouse dung!" Burnpaw exclaimed.

Sablepaw had braced himself for the attack, though it never came. His brother had promptly tripped over himself while trying to be flashy. He almost went in for a strike of his own, but held back. It was only a friendly spar, and he didn't want to go back on his word. "Don't try to be flashy, Burnpaw, that can come later. For now just focus on the basics, like biting and paw strikes and what not." As if to illustrate his point, Sablepaw swiped a sheathed paw in front of himself.

Processing Sablepaw's advice Burnpaw positioned himself infront of him. Burnpaw thought about the move for a few seconds before he leaped. When he leaped he jumped really high. He remembered to keep his claws sheathed as he was in the air. Burnpaw dealt a successful blow at Sablepaw's nose. However, Burnpaw landed on his side. He tried to quickly get back up on four paws.

Sablepaw watched as Burnpaw leaped into the air again, his brother was still trying to be flashy. Sablepaw opened his mouth to scold his Burnpaw, but was interrupted by the blow across his nose. "Not bad, but you're still trying too hard." Sablepaw rushed at his brother, colliding with him briefly before biting at the Burnpaw's back. He couldn't let the other apprentice win, not in front of Nightstar, anyway.

Before Burnpaw could reply he saw his brother running. He was very confused as to why Sablepaw was dashing towards him. He only realized what was happening until he felt a sharp pain on his back. Burnpaw winced. He turned around and faced Sablepaw. Burnpaw decided to use the move he had previously used once again. He jumped forwards more than high. This time when he dealt the blow on Sablepaw's nose he landed on four paws.

Sablepaw recoiled as another blow landed on his nose. "What is it with you and my nose?" He had another problem with the way his brother sparred, he always leaped into his attacks, which was very easily avoidable. Sablepaw glanced at Nightstar, wondering if he should show his brother how exploitable that way of attacking was. No, this was a friendly spar. He didn't have to go all out. Sablepaw charged at Burnpaw, using his head to knock the other apprentice off balance.

Burnpaw was surprised by the counterattack. He was starting to feel tired. "It's just a target." He replied to Sablepaw. Burnpaw's brother did have a point He thought to himself. He stood up. Burnpaw decided to find a different place to attack next time. He started dashing towards his opponent. He wanted to try to bite Sablepaw in the leg. Reminding himself that this was just a spar, Burnpaw remembered to not bite too hard. He bit Sablepaw's front upper leg.

As his brother began to rush him down, Sablepaw prepared for another blow to the nose. By the time they were done here he wouldn't be surprised if his warrior name had to be changed to Crookednose. As Burnpaw got closer, Sablepaw lifted his head in an attempt to avoid the nose blow, but was left feeling like a fool when his brother bit down on his leg. He knew how to win, he had trained with too many warriors to lose to another apprentice. He opened his mouth as if to bite at Burnpaw, but thought better of it. His brother needed this more than he did, so he settled with batting at Burnpaw with a sheathed paw instead.

Burnpaw didn't know what to expect. Sablepaw was always attacking Burnpaw with new moves he hadn't seen before. Burnpaw tried to dodge the paw above him as soon as he was aware of it but failed. He had to stay strong if he was going to impress his leader and mentor. As he analyzed his position he decided how to attack next. Burnpaw pulled gave quick step backwards. He started running until he rammed his head against Sablepaw's shoulder.
