First Impression [C]

Blackbear closed her eyes in half-annoyance, half-relaxation as the wind whistled past her face. Being covered in a thick blanket of fur, she didn't really feel the cold. Rather, the wind straightened out her more unruly fur tufts and got rid of all the enraging moisture that came with the change of seasons. It seemed no matter where Blackbear went, the hot humid air made all her fur frizz up and made her want to murder people. This crisp breeze was a welcome break from that. She opened her eyes to the sound of pawsteps, turning her head to see a she-cat pad up next to her. Finally, her patrolmate. Blackbear stood up, flicking her ear in Trufflemask's direction as a vague greeting.

She began to walk, trampling dead leaves underfoot. Ew, they were wet. She growled at them, as if to threaten them into drying out. That didn't work, but she still shot the ground an odd death stare or two as the mollies traversed the forest. Blackbear didn't make conversation, though she was vaguely interested by the cat next to her. She looked strong, strong enough that Blackbear was tempted to challenge her to a spar. Her muscles already itched for action... But this was a hunting patrol, as Birdchaser hammered into her head after she came home bloody one too many times. Almost painfully, she put her urges aside as they slowed to a stop.

She could already scent prey, probably squirrels or whatever gathering nuts for leaf-bare. Idiots. Why didn't they just hunt? "I'll go left, you go right. I smell squirrel." she set off with no furthet discussion, zeroing in on a bushy-tailed creature half-hidden behind a shrub.

She crept forwards, claws unsheathed and jaw just slightly open to scent it better. She pounced, landing just right- then her paw met wet leaves and she slipped, falling onto her stomach. For a fleeting moment the squirrel's tail was trapped beneath her leg, but with a shrill squeak and a sharp tug the annoying pest scampered away. With a loud hiss, Blackbear got to her feet. Wet leaves stuck to her now-drenched belly fur, she stalked back to where she split off from Trufflesnap. "Stupid squirrels, making me touch stupid leaves..." she trailed off into incoherent grumbling, claws digging into the ground.
