Silverpaw's Moonstone

Batsong prepared some herbs for the journey to soon take place. She was taking Silverpaw to the moonstone.

With the travel herbs ready, she headed over to the apprentice den and called out for the apprentice whose time it was to go and talk to the stars.

Silverpaw? Are your ready for your trip? she called out, setting one herb bundle down for the aprrentice and taking the other for herself. IT would give them good energy to get there and back again.

The medicine cat's call halted Silverpaw's grooming. "Yes, Batsong!" Her usual excitement shone through her voice. Picking herself up, the silver she-cat padded up to the pile of herbs. She poked at it with a paw. "This looks absolutely appetizing," she joked. Leaning down, she gulped them down quickly. She had heard that it wouldn't taste good, but that was an understatement. Even with the herbs already settling in her stomach, her body couldn't help making her gag a few times. Disgust evident on her face, Silverpaw tried to fake a smile. "R-ready when you are."

Batsong grinned at the apprentice's sarcasim, the herbs were not that tasty as Silverpaw had found out.
Nodding, Batsong led the apprentice out of camp and toward the moonstone where the apprentice would have a starclan dream which was an important step to becoming a warrior.

Although usually the medicine cat was shy and didn't talk alot, she had been trying to get to know all her clanmates more and had been trying to be more sociable.

"How is your training going? Are you excited to become a warrior?" she asked .

It felt not long ago that she was an apprentice training to become a warrior, she even was a warrior for quite some time before becoming the med cat... time was funny : things sometimes felt like yesterday and moons ago.


Their journey had almost reached the cave where Silverpaw would go in and sleep next to the magical stone to have the dream.

"Training is going well! Blazefang is teaching me a lot, but I have to share her with Hickorypaw." She did not have a problem with Hickorypaw, just with sharing her mentor's praise. She had wished to have the warrior to herself while being an apprentice, but now it seemed so trivial to her. "A warrior..." Silverpaw was not sure how to feel about that. Would Blazefang spend less time with her? Would they spend time together at all? The thoughts swirled in her head, making her feel uneasy.

The rest of the trek to Mothermouth had carried on in silence. The apprentice had lost her excitement, remaining lost in her thoughts. As they approached the entrance to Mothermouth however, Silverpaw snapped back to the present. "This is it." Not waiting for confirmation, Silverpaw trotted into the cave. The further she went, the narrower her path became. Finally, her path opened up, and with it came the blinding light of the Moonstone. She didn't feel like admiring its beauty. The silver apprentice stepped hesitantly toward the stone. She did not know who would come to meet her in the dream, though she had someone in mind. Laying down in front of the Moonstone, Silverpaw touched her nose to it before letting sleep take her.

In front of Silverpaw appeared a small, soft-looking she-cat. Her blue eyes regarded the apprentice, a smile on her face as she padded to meet the spotted molly. "Welcome to StarClan. My name is Lilacsong. I was leader of WindClan many seasons ago. I've watched the Clan grow, and I have watched you grow. You are no less than amazing, Silverpaw. You are beautiful, you are kind, and you will make WindClan proud. I am already proud to call you a Clanmate."

Lilacsong moved forward, resting her nose on the top of Silverpaw's head, curling her squirrel-like tail around her. It hurt her, knowing how scared Silverpaw was of being alone. She knew that fear all too well. She knew what it was like to be an orphan, before Olivestar and Zinnia had taken her in. So she would give this apprentice the same love that they had given her.

Stars illuminated the sky, casting a lovely glow on the moors, or what looked like them. In front of the apprentice was a stunning cat, blue eyes glittering with stars. Silverpaw's skin began to heat, she hadn't expected to be praised during her dream, especially by a former a clan leader. Unsure of what to say, she offered a simple "Thank you," while bowing her head slightly. As Lilacsong made contact with her, Silverpaw flinched. "H-hey, what-" She could not finish her sentence, the warmth of the former leader silenced her. Silverpaw greedily pushed into Lilacsong's embrace. She could feel her eyes growing moist, though she did not know why.

Silverpaw dove into her embrace, and Lilacsong felt her heart break as she pulled the apprentice in. She didn't say anything more, just held Silverpaw there, her head on hers, stroking her back with her tail. Sure, it wasn't much, but just then, she knew that was what Silverpaw needed. She just wanted to be loved. And Lilacsong would give her that.

Quietly, the leader began rasping her tongue over Silverpaw's head, hoping to calm her. It was what a mother would do with her own kits. Lilacsong herself had cared for many cats in that same way. A soft, therapeutic purr emanated from her as she continued her grooming.

A stream of tears began to pour from her eyes. She did not want to feel like this, not now. She had tried so hard to protect herself, but this simple embrace unraveled her. She shut her eyes, shielding herself from the star specked world. Lilacsong's motherly habits only made things worse. Silverpaw's sides heaved from the weight of her sobs. She had missed this in her life. She was always alone, even with her clanmates. She had no one she could truly call a friend, but the love she felt in this moment eased her sadness. In-between heavy breaths Silverpaw managed to speak. "I'm trying to keep it together, I don't know if I can." Another wave of tears took over, stopping her from speaking. After a short moment, she gathered herself just enough to continue. "It's gotten so hard keeping up the act." She needed to see Lilacsong, needed to look into her eyes. She needed to know everything would be okay. As Silverpaw opened her eyes however, she was greeted not by blue eyes, but a shining stone. Her dream was over. Tears continued to roll down her cheeks as she stifled a sob. She didn't know where Batsong was, though she hoped the medicine cat had stayed outside. As long as she could help it, no one would know how truly alone she felt.
