Torrentkit's Apprentice Ceremony

RiverClan’s cats were growing older and stronger every day, and Poppyshine was grateful. So many apprentices had become warriors in the recent moon, including one of her own, and kits had turned to apprentices too—and now it was time for yet another to leave the nursery and join the ranks. The tragedy of Forestfire’s stillborn kits had sorrowed the entire clan, but her other kits were happy and healthy—and one was ready to become an apprentice.

Poppyshine stepped up to the willow branch and announced to her clan, “Let all cats old enough to catch their own fish gather for a Clan meeting.”

Poppyshine saw Torrentkit scamper up. She looked to him, her eyes gleaming with the hint that this ceremony was precisely for Torrentkit. She gave a flick of her tail and waited for him to approach. “Torrentkit. You have reached your age of six moons and are ready to be apprenticed. From this day on until you receive your warrior name, you shall be known as Torrentpaw.” She smiled down at the newly-named apprentice and then looked to a newly-named warrior that she had in mind. “Your new mentor shall be Sootspirit. He showed great promise as an apprentice, and he will pass all of that promising knowledge onto you now, as a warrior.” With a final nod, she stepped down from the willow branch so mentor and apprentice could meet.
