Spruce it up

Sprucepaw sat near the apprentice den. Grooming his fur to look in pristine handsome condition. He was a good cat, always did what poppyshine asked of him and always followed the rules, no matter what. He took the code very seriously. Friendly, although somethimes could come across rigid if you were not on your best behavior and he caught you breaking rules or code.

He purred in greeting to his sister, Olivepaw. Olivepaw was much more confident and adventurous than his other sister Sandy. Which was all good and fine as long as it didnt get her into trouble or break any rules.

"Morning sis!" he purred cheerily. "Hows your training going?" he asked her. "harebounce teaching you lots?" he purred thinking back to her ceremony he got to see. He was so happy he had his too and that they could house togetehr again as roommates/denmates?

"maybe we could train together? he offered knowing that Brookstone would definitely love to spend more time with her little fishies as she called all of them.

Olivepaw was just preparing to leave camp, her fur groomed to perfection and both her chin and tail held high. The authority with which she walked and spoke held no real impact, nor did she expect it to, but the fact that it seemed to garner her some respect and even admiration only further egged her on. She’d grown confident enough that if she timed it right, she may be able to leave camp on her own without getting caught. That was her plan, anyway, before it was so rudely interrupted by her littermate. She’d only made it just outside of the apprentice den before coming to a halt. Composing herself, she turned to Sprucepaw and meowed, ”Hello, Sprucepaw.” It was short, almost curt, even, but she couldn’t bring herself to be particularly mean to the tom, especially knowing he meant well. If it were any other cat, she’d likely just make up some snarky response and be on her way. But if Poppyshine had succeeded at anything, it was instilling the value of family in her daughter… Even if Olivepaw had an odd and at times difficult time showing it.

”Oh, I suppose it’s going fine. I was just about to meet Harebounce somewhere for a little one-on-one training, sparring, I believe.” She felt bad lying to Sprucepaw so blatantly, biting the corner of her lip in a bit of hesitation. ”But she said she has to go on a hunting patrol, so our plans got cancelled for today. If you wanted to go out and do some training, I think that’d be okay.” It certainly wasn’t what she planned, nor was it some she particularly wanted to do, but whatever. There were too many warriors mulling around camp for her to leave on her own without being noticed, anyway.

At first, Sprucepaw gave her a sidelong glance... where was she off to in such a rush? He was very rule oriented so leaving camp without a warrior was something he was strongly against.

Surely his own sister wasnt about to break rules? Right?

They may have been the same age, but that didnt stop sprucepaw from constantly telling his siblings what to do and how they should follow the rules more closely. He constantly did a kit and even did so now.

However, his suspicions subsided after her explanation and lie. He believed her as he had no reason not to really. If anything he was probably too trusting... as long as she said she was doing training that was given the okay by Harebounce then it was all okay.

hmm well okay, so long as you are having a warrior with you I guess thats fine.

he meowed while grooming at his fur more.

Olivepaw held in a small smirk of satisfaction that her little white lie had seemingly worked. She couldn’t give it away that easily, so she simply nodded and her head. Licking a paw and drawing it over her ear, she tilted her head a bit. ”Well, if you’re not busy today… I think I see a hunting patrol about to head out. We could go with them, I’m sure they wouldn’t mind, you know.” She gestured toward the gathered group of cats at the exit, clearing preparing to head out for a patrol. She got to her paws, beginning to head in that direction. ”Well, come on! If you don’t get your fuzzy butt over here they’ll leave without us!” Her pace quickened a bit, but she didn’t look back. If Sprucepaw wanted to follow, he could. If not… Well, Olivepaw supposed she’d be hunting today either way.
