Out of all of her kits, Poppyshine was least worried about Sprucekit doing anything obnoxious during his ceremony. He was such a sweet young tom, and also cared very deeply about the rules that were taught in the warrior code. He understood how important this ceremony was, and so Poppyshine was silent as she groomed his fur and made sure he looked tidy. With a smile, she gave one last affectionate lick of his cheek and then gestured for him to follow her out for the ceremony.

After stepping up onto the willow branch, Poppyshine called, “Let all cats old enough to catch their own fish gather for a Clan meeting.”

Willow Branch

Sandykit stood nearby as she always did,
now with a new habit of learning how to groom herself like Poppyshine would. Lick after lick she became cleaner, and happier. It put her in a better mood. Sandykit smiled to Sprucekit and mewed a quick goodbye before residing to her usual spot, this time the ceremony not sparking any anxieties.

Sprucekit sat very still for his mother as she got his fur and pelt all nicely cleaned and ready to go and look his best for his big day! Unlike his siblings before him that had squirmed about. He took a deep breath as poppy headed out ahead of him. Sandykit was here and he gave her a friendly nudge. They had watched all their siblings ceremonies together and now it was his turn. She looked a little less nervous than previous times which he was happy to see. I can’t wait to see who my mentor is. I know mom will pick a good one for me and you when it’s your turn he purred. Giving his sister a quick hug he ran out behind poppyshine smiling from ear to ear. He was ready for this and whoever his mentor was he would obey them and do exactly as he was told . The rules and the warrior code was always going to be important to him

With her child ready to go, Poppyshine lifted her chin and called, “Sprucekit. You have reached your age of six moons and are ready to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you shall be known as Sprucepaw.” She sent a smile in Sprucekit’s direction and then turned her gaze to another familiar face in the crowd of cats. “Your mentor shall be Brookstone. Her experiences will teach you greatly, and her guidance will be invaluable.”

Poppyshine stepped down from the willow branch to let mentor and acquaintance meet. She trusted Brookstone to look after Sprucepaw—after all, she was Poppyshine’s children’s big sister. Brookstone had already worked so hard to come into her own as a warrior, and Poppyshine knew that having an apprentice would only help her grow.

Sprucepaw ran to his older sister and mentor happily and nuzzles his head against her shoulder super friendly and excited . Yesss! Sis you are my mentor!! he purrs . Sitting up straight and at attention he wants to show her that he will be a good worker and willing to obey anything she asked of him. He was super attentitive to the warrior code and rules.

Im so excited to train under you Brookstone . He smiled over to his mom as she got down too.

❒ Brookstone had been more than thrilled and honored to have been chosen to mentor Riverclan's newest apprentice. What made it all even better was that it was one of Poppy's kits—one of Brook's "Little Fishies". Brookstone was a rather new warrior but Poppyshine had faith in her and she wouldn't misplace that trust. She was Big Sister Brookstone and it was time for her to step up her sisterly duties to a whole new level.

❒ "Sprucepaw! Congratulations, little fishy! I'm glad you've finally started your journey to join me as a warrior. It'll be a long, hard path ahead but Big Sister Brook will be with ya every step of the way. Nevah forget that." She grinned down at her new apprentice as he nuzzled her shoulder. Sprucepaw had always been such a sweet kit. Honestly, all of Poppy's were rather lovely. "We'll be starting your trainin' early in the mornin' tomorrow. Fishin' as your first lesson. How's that sound? For now, though, go on ahead and celebrate with your friends and family and try and get some rest when ya can, yeah? See ya soon, Spruce-ter!" With a final, silly wave of her tail, the young warrior sauntered off to resume what she'd been doing previously.
