Junior Junior Entomologist [O]

Woolypaw treaded through camp, a happy smile on his muzzle. A large dragonfly zipped around in the air in front of him, making invisible direction changes as it seemed to teleport left and right. Insects were still wildly fascinating to him, especially ones like this that he didn't get to see too often. Mister Dragonfly here was particularly beautiful. His wings were irridescent, shining every colour of the rainbow as they flapped at such a speed they were only a blur, and his body was a metallic blue-green simply dazzling in the sun. He followed the beautiful fellow around camp, occasionally speeding up or slowing down as needed.

He finally stopped not of his own volition, but because a small kit had appeared in front of him. Once he stopped and looked away from the dragonfly for a moment, it flew away, too fast to be followed. That avenue of entertainment gone, Woolypaw looked down at the kit and smiled. "Hello there! My name's Woolypaw. What's yours? I've been chasing this dragonfly- well, he's gone now, but I'm sure we could find another. Would you like that?"

"Well, nice to meet you Sandykit! It's nice to see another cat interested in bugs. When I was your age, I'd wake up extra early just to see all the beetles and moths! There are some bugs you just can't see any time other than dawn. I can show you some time, if you'd like- but let's look for normal daytime bugs for now." He was getting a bit ahead of himself, he noted with a twitch of his whiskers. He couldn't help it, insects were cool! It was nice to talk to someone, albeit a kit, who shared his interest.

He scanned camp, looking for any colourful flashes in the air. He spotted a small, but still beautiful, blue butterfly fluttering just a couole foxlengths from the two of them. He nudged the kit gently and gestured towards it. "Watch, I'll show you how to catch it." He grinned at Sandykit and dropped into a crouch. The hunting technique was probably wasted on the butterfly, given that he'd caught many by just walking behind them and batting them with a paw, but he figured Sandykit would want to see how hunting was done. Hopefully he remembered right from his training.

Eyes trained on the insect, he prowled forward. He gave a dramatic wiggle of his flank before pouncing, trapping the butterfly underfoot. He looked back at Sandykit, taking no heed of a large shadow passing over the ground beside him. A cloud, his subconsious mind told him. "And that's how it's done! You give it a tr-"

Not again. Oh stars, not again.

A large brown shape appeared in his field of vision, seemimgly appearing from thin air. It took about a second before adrenaline filled his veins and time seemed to slow, revealing the assailant: an eagle. He set off, trying to reach it before it got to Sandykit... But it was too late. By the time he got remotely near enough to attack it, the great beast had taken Sandykit in its talons.

It began to rise, taking Sandykit with it. Panic filling his brain, Woolypaw sprang upwards and hooked his claws into its thigh. He raked down the eagle's flesh as he fell back to the ground, bringing the eagle back to his level. "Help! Eagle!" He tried to yell, but his voice caught and it came out as more of a chocked rasp.


A wild Eagle appeared!
The eagle used Swoop on Sandykit, dealing 9HP and costing 15SP. Woolypaw used Front Paw Strike on the eagle, dealing 6HP and costing 7SP.

Sandykit's scream grated on Woolypaw's ears, raising his heartbeat even further. Yarrowpaw at least had some sort of fighting chance against that fox, but Sandykit had no hope in the dark forest of surviving this without him. He charged at the eagle again, jumping.

Instead of his paws meeting feathers, or even just the ground, they scrabbled in the air as a terrible pain pierced his torso. The eagle had somehow evaded his attack and grabbed him, sending sharp claws digging into his sides. He must have been small enough to constitute a meal for the thing. Panicking, he twisted around(causing a wave of nauseating pain) and tried to claw its scaly leg. The claws didn't pierce through, paw glancing off the massive leg.

To his absolute horror, the ground grew further and further from his reach. They were rising up, up above camp. "Sandykit! Don't look down. It's okay. It's okay, it's okay. It can't carry us far. I'm heavy. I'll squirm and it'll have to go back down and drop us. It's okay." He tried not to think about how, even if the eagle did drop them, it would likely be from the height they were currently at. That is, so, so, so high up. Waves of paralyzing fear washed over him as the eagle flew on, bringing them further and further from home. It was cold up here.

All he could do was squirm.


The eagle used Swoop on Woolypaw, dealing 9HP and dealing 15SP! Woolypaw used Front Paw Blow on the eagle, dealing 4HP and costing 5SP. Woolypaw and Sandykit have been birdnapped.

At the sharp call of his name, Sootpaw was quick to snap up into a standing position, amber eyes looking around for a moment before finally spotting Yarrowpaw, the way he spoke was urgent, informing him of the eagle.. that took.. what?! The dark apprentice was quick to go to his friends side. "We can't let it out of our sight!" He wasn't experienced with this but he was trying to think as rationally as he could. Stars.. what should he do?

Sprucepaw was in the middle of camp when everything happended so fast. One moment he was taking a break basking in the nice warm sun. His chores all finished and taken care of. The next thing he knew screams were from his sister sandykit. He felt helpless as he watched the big bird carry away woolypaw and sandykit.

He was frozen, stunned staring at them flying off. His mother, (Poppyshine) quickly appeared and ordered the apprentices to stay put. He snapped out of his frozen state and gave her a nod. He would follow the orders and do exactly what she had asked of him. He got under shelter of a nearby den in case any secondary attacks were possible. The last thing his mum needed to worry about here was him also getting into trouble. He watched her take off running to try and go save them both.

You can do it mum! he said to himself.

His eyes strained upward to where he had last seen the eagle...

The seconds passed like hours as he waited as instructed... he felt powerless and could only hope that his sister and fellow apprentice were okay
