Scorchtalon laid out in the middle of the clearing, enjoying the warmth of the sun on his fur. It was a lovely day, barely a wisp of a cloud marring the bright blue sky. He almost pitied the other clans, the trees in their territories having obstructed their view. He shuddered at the thought of not being able to sleep under the stars every night, though it was followed by a twinge of uncertainty as he considered his current situation. He knew he was risking exile every time he met with the Shadowclan she-cat, but he couldn't help who he fell in love with, and he wished his clanmates could understand that.

Rising to his paws with a long stretch, he paused to groom his ginger fur before deciding a quick hunt on the moors would be just the thing to get his mind off the precariousness of his current predicament. He bounced over to the camp entrance with his usual vigor, calling out over his shoulder as he went.

"Would anyone like to join me for a hunt?" He sat down to wait, laying his tail over his paws. He was painfully aware of how short Windclan was on warriors lately, but that didn't mean that the need for prey had been lessened. Besides, he always enjoyed spending time with his clanmates.

Blazefang was basking in the sun by the elders’ den, one claw lazily doodling in the dirt. She tried to push down the troubled feelings brewing in her belly. Not long after Ashfall’s disappearance, Lavanderdrop and Ryepaw had also gone missing. Had they gone in search of their mother? And why would Ryepaw just leave without telling her? She had tried throwing herself into her new warrior duties, but it just wasn’t the same without her practically-mate by her side. Scorchtalon’s invitation to hunt was a welcome distraction. The ginger she-cat got up and wordlessly padded over to the entrance to join her fellow warrior.

Scorchtalon stood up as Blazefang approached, giving the younger warrior a friendly smile in greeting. He waited a few more moments, but it seemed as though Blazefang would be the only cat joining him. With a flick of his tail, he led his admittedly small hunting patrol out of camp. The sun was hot against his back, the wind buffeting his fur as he walked, but he wouldn't have it any other way. They stopped at a small clearing ringed by tall grass, and it wasn't long before Scorchtalon smelled a tantalizing whiff of rabbit. He immediately set off into the heather behind the trail, stopping when he noticed the creature peering cautiously out of it's warren. He waited, still as a stone as the rabbit hopped out, evidently deeming it's surroundings safe enough to explore. As soon as the rabbit was far enough away from it's den Scorchtalon streaked towards it. He was rapidly gaining on the creature when it slipped into another rabbit hole and was lost. Scorchtalon's tail drooped momentarily, but he muttered a few words of encouragement to himself and carried on, his senses alert for prey.

Scorchtalon attempted to catch a rabbit. The catch was unsuccessful

Blazefang, meanwhile, had found something quite interesting- a bird! Blazefang had certainly been known to hunt unusual prey at times, her first attempt as an apprentice had been a frog, of all things. She dropped low and crept downwind of her mark, tail twitching slightly. WindClan would be eating well soon, or so she hoped. She crept as close as she could, and practically at the last second Blazefang pounced. No luck. Her feathered snack saw her in time and flew away. “We’re not having much luck today, are we?” she said to no one in particular.
