Shrikestorm was a few tail-lengths ahead of her as the pair set out together hunting. She had paused for a brief second to give Hawkheart a goofy look, and she now was trotting to catch up. After closing the distance, Coyotegrin matched the Deputy's gait. "Has StarClan spoken to you or Burningleaf? I was hoping my mother would come back with the stars but..." She trailed off, not wanting to really finish the statement. At this point, she felt relatively comfortable with the tom to be so direct and blunt. Of course... He could not respond at all or take offense to the question, seeing it as an intrusion. Truly, she hoped not.

The two cats headed out into the territory to hunt together, padding along side by side. Shrikestorm took Coyotegrin's question in, his tail giving a quick twitch. "I have not heard anything from StarClan," he frowned, wondering what was going on in the aftermath of the Dark Forest's defeat. What was going to happen with those who had sacrificed themselves, and what of Goldenstar? "We should talk with Burningleaf when we get back." He nodded to himself, resolute. If anyone would know what StarClan wanted to say now that they had returned, it would be their medicine cat.

Coyotegrin nodded, pleased that the question went well in the sense he wasn't angry about it. With the situation handled to the point it could be in this moment, Coyotegrin turned her attention to impressing Shrikestorm with her hunting and speed. Making her pawsteps quiet, the warrior opened her maw to taste the air. Rabbit. With a nod towards Shrikestorm, Coyotegrin weaved through the grass, slowly making her way up to the creature.

As she was about five tail-lengths away, about to pounce, the wind suddenly changed against her favor. The rabbit lifted its head, took a whiff, and dove into a nearby burrow. Wincing in embarrassment, Coyotegrin held position. Making too much noise would scare away any other prey in the area.

Shrikestorm chuckled quietly, but he held no judgment. It wasn't as if his own hunting record was spotless. Every cat missed a piece of prey or two at some point in their lives. He raised his head and began to sniff for more prey, soon catching a whiff of another rabbit some distance behind them. Raising his tail to signal the creature, he began to stalk his prey. Closer, closer, and then a jump! It was a clean kill: as clean as any kill could be. He came back with the rabbit triumphantly, but he maintained his usual stand-up stoicism, especially in front of Coyotegrin.

Gah! Of course Shrikestorm got a kill on his first try. All she wanted was to impress Shrikestorm... StarClan, if she missed again she would never live it down. She remained still on her stomach, waiting for a rabbit to re-appear above the burrow. Her patience payed off, and the rabbit she chased reemerged. A shriek of a hawk sounded a mere heartbeat before the hawk was on the ground, picking up the rabbit. Out of frustration, Coyotegrin growled and leapt without thinking. What was with it with all these stupid hawks? This was her second one in a few days. But hey, at least she can show Shrikestorm her fighting skills and take home two pieces of prey for the price of one. Jumping onto it's back, Coyotegrin latched on with her maw and furiously swiped at the feathered body.

The hawk was surprised when a cat started attacking its back. She was so focused on hunting a meal for her hungry hatchlings. A few days ago, her mate had gone missing and forced her to work tirelessly for food for her family. Turning her attention to the life threatening situation, the hawk slashed out with her talons.

Shrikestorm watched Coyotegrin chase after a rabbit, everything looking good at first. Then a hawk swooped down and grabbed the prey in a stroke of terrible luck. That should've been the end of it, but Coyotegrin wasn't going to let it get away. To Shrikestorm's shock, his fellow warrior attacked the hawk, drawing it into battle. He hurried and ran towards the two, lashing out at the hawk before snapping at its wings. He had to make sure that nothing happened to Coyotegrin.
