Things had gotten... stale. Thunderclan was doing better than they ever have been. It was thanks to the dark forest that they had managed to come so far. Morningstar had handed over Fallen Oak, but Sunning Rocks still wasn't theirs. No one felt the might that Thunderclan was slowly gaining. It wasn't enough. They needed to show the forest they weren't to be messed with, and getting handed territory like that wasn't proving anything. Who cares if that dead tom had kits with Thunderclan? He wanted to prove Thunderclan was strong, that he was strong! He just didn't know how to do it yet..

The gray tom, bored with what was happening in camp, set out. Pushing his way past anyone who was in his way. Not caring if a dead companion had followed after him, like he knew they were going to. He was on their side, he was training under them, he wasn't going to do anything to jeopardize their stay. His yellow eye glanced behind him, and sure enough Smokefang slipped out of camp behind him. The gray she-cat giving him a nod, but didn't say a word. It was like she knew he needed a moment to think, a moment to himself. So she kept a distance between them, but there was a certain sparkle to her eye.. Like she was interested to see where this moment alone would get him.

Whatever.. Nothing interesting was going to happen, at least in his mind. So he turned away from his follower and started off further into the forest. Hopefully the walk would curb his boredom.

The trees seemed to blur by him.. Not that he was going that fast, but he was so lost in his head that it all just seemed to flow together. The sounds of the forest even blending into what seemed to be one continuous sound. That was until a scent crossed his nose. Mouse...

The scent alone was enough to throw his thoughts for a loop, sending him back to the beginning of leaf-bare. He managed to catch a mouse for the first time in a while.. How he enjoyed the squeaks of pain and other sounds it made trying to escape his claws. A grin started to split the tom's maw. A small dark chuckle escaped the tom, oh how he wanted to hear those sounds again...

The scent hit his nose again, stronger this time.. As if right on queue with his thoughts.. The mouse was near by. It was the perfect chance to satisfy his desires..

The tom dropped into a crouch, allowing his nose to guide him to the source of the strong smell, careful not to disturb any loose items scattered along the ground. Yellow eye scanning the area in front of him as he followed the scent closely. He couldn't take a chance of not spotting the creature and accidentally startling it.

Closer and closer he crept, pausing in his stride as soon as he spotted the mouse. Its nose and little paws rummaging through the fallen leaves and twigs that new leaf had created. The tom held his ground. Yellow eye focused on the creature in front of him, judging the distance, and checking again to make sure he could catch the creature in his paws.

Then he leapt.

Starlingflare could feel the creature under his paws, squeaking in fear trying escape his claws. He couldn't help as his grin grew, turning to something twisted. Claws pricked at the mouse's skin and fur, slowly caging it in between his paws even more. The cries of fear slowly turning into ones of pain, and oh how wonderful it sounded. His tail lashed behind him with excitement as the look on his face grew darker.

His claws sink in more, relishing in the cries the mouse produced before it died off.. seemingly all too soon for the tom's taste. Oh well. It satisfied his craving for now.

The gray tom ignored the bloody mess he had made in his moment of darkness, choosing to bury the remains of the mouse for him to collect later. If someone complained about the mess the piece of prey was, then he would just say he made a messy kill. They couldn't exactly blame him considering that he was only hunting with one eye. He did the best he could when it came to situations like that.

The tom started to pad away from the spot, ready to continue on his day now that he was... Starlingflare froze in his spot. No.. He wasn't satisfied. He let out a growl.. why wasn't he satisfied? The mouse that was once enough wasn't enough anymore.. In the moment it seemed like it was, but it really truly wasn't.

What was different from this time than last time? What did he do different? What did he do wrong?

Yellow eye narrowed as bloody claws dug into the ground. He couldn't go around craving sounds of pain all the time! He needed to satisfy his craving because if he didn't... Well it would bleed into camp, and he couldn't have his clan mates suspecting him. They didn't need to know about any of this.

The gray tom promptly sat down, ignoring his surroundings. Was it because it wasn't like Birdsong? She was the one that really started all of this.. The fear on her face as she fought off that fox on her own.. Only to fail in the end and succumbed to the orange creature. To think he almost warned her and ruined such a beautiful moment. Oh thorns it was like music to his ears.. It was really because of her that the noises of simple prey wasn't enough right?

Or was it because of the gathering he was spoiled. The recent gathering was wonderful. Thorns it was music to his ears, and it soothed his soul. It was one thing to see all the bloodshed that the dark forest cats had cause, all the panic they had created when they first appeared only to follow up their appearance with symphonies they created with their claws as they drew out those beautiful sounds from those that felt their fear wasn't enough to stop them from doing something reckless. Even then others who didn't really step out of line still go their dues.

By the end of the night bodies had covered the clearing. Blood stained the snow filled floor. Even he wanted to take advantage of the chaos the gathering had caused, wanting to kill an apprentice who was too busy running his mouth, but Smokefang had stopped him. Stating it was too soon.. and she was right. He wasn't ready then. It would have been too reckless, to easy to get caught but now? Oh thorns now he was ready.

How he craved to feel another cats skin beneath his paws, to feel his claws sink in as he drew sound of pain from them over and over again with every slash and bite... It was time.. It was finally time. He just had to find the perfect cat, and the perfect time to strike. All he had to have was patience, and that he could do.. The excitement from the thought alone would be enough to keep him patient. You couldn't rush perfection after all.

The tom sat, the idea of hunting forgotten as he thought about what he would do when the chance finally came up. The bright world around him not doing a thing to light up the dark look on his face as the tom let out a chuckle. Oh how perfect this was going to be.. He was going to relish in the sounds once again like those at the gathering, and nothing would stop him this time.
