time doesn't freeze [OPEN!]

Sunningrocks was usually a place to relax, but Otterdance had found that the ice was thinnest near the smooth stones that were dusted with a layer of snow. Naturally, he'd made himself a small fishing hole in which he'd sat waiting patiently for one of the silver-scaled fish to aimlessly wander past. The water here flowed gently beneath the ice, and he watched as he waited, thinking of what he'd do once he got back to camp. Visit Mallowmist, for sure- make sure she was eating enough for both herself and the kits they'd soon enough share. Avoid the muddy, grossly horrific "visitors" RiverClan housed in their camp. Maybe even take a quick nap before the sun went down.

A quick flash of silver in front of Otterdance's face snapped him away from his thoughts, and he paid close attention to the surface of the water as the fish nearby swam around. Soon enough, it made its way to the little hole in the ice that Otterdance had made, and with a quick dash of his paw, he retrieved it and swiftly bit into its neck. Once the flopping stopped, he placed it into a small bowl he made out of snow, hopeful that this would be the first of many catches. The Clan could use a little morale boost.

Perchfall had been trying as hard as she could to lose herself in her duties. Fortunately, there was a lot to be done. Ceremonies, hunting, patrolling-- if she spent as much time as possible doing things instead of thinking, it was almost possible to forget her reality. Any time she was alone with her thoughts, she felt like she would absolutely lose control. So she made efforts not to be. This time, she'd put herself on yet another hunting patrol.

She knew very little about Otterdance-- only that he was Ashflight's apprentice, that he was Birdsong's kit, and that he would soon be a father with Mallowmist. None of those were personality traits; however, he was a Clanmate, and those details on top of that fact were enough for her to feel vaguely comfortable around him. Moreso than with the nightmares back at camp, at least. It was very smart of him to use the little hole he had made in the ice. Perchfall's preferred method of fishing was to wait downstream from the largest pathway through the stones. Fish would often swim through it, taking the easiest path, and the water flowed fast enough that it was unfrozen. As usual, her prediction at least was correct-- the glimmering splash of a fish entered her peripheral vision, and instinctively, her paw lashed out.

Unfortunately, as had often been the case, she just barely missed her prey. It escaped, and all she could do was helplessly watch its retreating form. Stars. I haven't hunted successfully for quite a while. What is wrong with me? Despite that, her face remained neutral. She would just have to try again. At least Otterdance had gotten something.

Tinypool had been joining more patrols since what happened in the Gathering. She couldn't stand staying in camp for too long. The eyes of those ghostly cats kept following her, making her nervous and unnerved 24/7. So, hunting became a distraction for her. And a useful one now that Mallowmist was going to have kits! The warrior was happy for her former apprentice and wished she and her family would live a happy, healthy life in the clan. But for that to happen, she had to take of herself and eat.

The dark-furred warrior nodded at the rest of the patrol, informing them she would distance herself a little to fish more privately. She jumped on top of a rock whose surface was above the rushing river. Her small size allowed her to lay down safely and from there, she waited for any squirming shadow to appear in her sight. A long shadow started to come to her upstream. Tinypool prepared herself to strike and when the creature was near enough, she sunk her head into the water and stretched her paws to grab it. But what she caught between her jaws wasn't a fish at all. "AH!" She yelped when getting her head out of water. Between her fangs, a snake thrashed violently and bit the warrior's leg in an attempt to escape, causing the she-cat to hiss in pain. But Tinypool didn't let go. Despite the aggressive nature of the creature, it could still serve as food. The warrior bit harder into the serpentine animal, hoping to kill it soon without any additional bite on her skin.

Tinypool attempted to fish. The catch was unsuccessful and instead, a snake has appeared! -7 SP

Otterdance was just about to settle down to wait for another fish to pass him by, when he heard Tinypool yelp from downstream. Instantly he was on all four paws, rushing toward where the small she-cat had chosen to hunt. A long, slithering snake was trapped between her jaws, writhing and struggling to force it’s way out of her grip. Because the snake was attached to Tinypool by burying it’s fangs into her leg, Otterdance wasn’t sure how to go about helping the poor warrior. After a moment’s hesitation, he lunged forward and bit as closely as he could toward the base of the snake’s skull. He kept the snake firmly in his grasp, allowing Tinypool to lash out against it freely.

Otterdance used Leap and Hold, pinning the snake for one turn! Serpentine Movement is inactive for the duration of the pin. Leap and Hold dealt -7 Health Points, and used -15 Stamina Points.

After losing the fish she had tried to catch, Perchfall allowed herself a cursory glance over to her other patrol-members. Otterdance caught his first attempt, but Tinypool-- her apprentice, a sweet she-cat-- let out a yelp of surprise that startled her. The glance became a full head-turn to see what exactly happened. A wriggling snake lashed between the warrior's teeth, biting and thrashing in attempts to free itself. Reacting quicker than her, Otterdance helped restrain the writhing animal. Between the two cats fighting, there was no room for her to get herself involved. If she attempted to help, she would be more likely to hurt Tinypool than hurt the snake. So, after a stunned moment, she walked over instead of dashing like she was originally inclined to do. "Are you okay?" the deputy asked simply, muscles tensed up in case the snake did manage to escape.

Tinypool saw her companions coming to help her. In an attempt to aid Otterdance's attempt, she stretched her injured paw, exposing the snake for the tom to attack. Luckily, the young warrior was skilled enough to not only manage to bite down the snake despite its trashing but also not hurt in the process. The dark-furred molly reacted quickly and with her free paw, she struck the snake right at the back, taking it out of its misery. With the slithery animal dead, the petite she-cat grabbed it with her paws, finally freeing her leg from those fangs. Luckily for her, it didn't seem like the snake had expelled any strange substance from her mouth that could be considered poisonous.

After throwing the snake to the shore, Tinypool's attention turned back to Perchfall. "Yeah, I'm okay now. I think it wasn't venomous so I should be fine." She purred, trying to calm down her former mentor. Her eyes then fixed on Otterdance. The dark-furred molly was now grateful that this tom had become Mallowmist's mate. There was no doubt in Tinypool's heart that he would take good care of her former apprentice. "Thank you for the helping paw! I know it isn't very tasty but maybe we can bring that snake back to camp and give it to Mallowmist if we don't have much luck with fish. She needs more food now than ever for your kits to be healthy."
