A Frigid Night [Open]

The camp was submerged in darkness, and yet it was as lively as ever. Night was for ShadowClan what for the rest of the clan was the day and vice-versa…so it shouldn’t be a surprise for many when the head of the blue-tabby kitten peeked out of the nursery, looking around with inquisitive eyes, the subtle glint of a kit with a plot that he knows would get him in trouble if figured out by the adult cats clear in his eye as he stepped out of the nursery.

The blue tabby was learning the ways of the clan far too well, as he made little to no noise as he sneaked out of camp, ignoring the bitter cold that tried to get under his fluffy coat through the howling wind that blew through the camp. Oh, if only he knew he was leaving a trail to follow for anyone that came around, tiny pawprints leading from the entrance of the nursery to his current location. He could be quick to learn, even just by sight, but he was still a kit with near zero experience on how the world works…

His ears were flat against his head, laying low, using the shadows on his favor as he had heard mentors instruct their apprentices before, even if he lacked the right technique, it didn’t keep him from trying. All while making his way to the entrance of the camp, his tiny heart beating with excitement in his chest as the idea of being able to see what the territory looked like beyond these walls, maybe even explore for a bit…

Oh, so close…if only he could sneak past the guards and returning apprentices…he was going to need to time this correctly…

Deerleap noticed a small blue tabby kit poke it's head out of the nursery. there really was a lot of kits in the nursery these days, aren't there? from where she sat, she watched the kit attempt to sneak out of camp. his stance was surprisingly good, but his tail was twitching far too much for a cat to not notice.

"Still your tail," she murmured as she passed him on her way to the fresh-kill pile. she pretended to not notice the kit as she sniffed a mouse, but from the corner of her vision, she watched the small kit.

Frigidkit’s paws stopped abruptly as his body froze, the fur on the back of his neck and tail fluffing up completely as an adult voice reached his young ears. He was so focused on the guards that he completely forgot that other cats could also see him around camp.

However, the message carried over by the words took a couple of seconds to actually be processed, and it was definitely not what he expected. He blinked as he turned to look at the warrior, whose name was still unknown to him even if her face wasn’t, disbelief clear in his expression, before turning to look at his not fluffed up tail, trying to still it and making a mental note about it.

Now, he might be a kit, but he didn’t have frog-mucus for brains. He knew that his attempt to sneak out had been thwarted at this point, and any further attempts could give more than enough reason to the warrior to scold him for attempting to leave camp. He still wasn’t sure how he had managed to dodge that swipe just yet, but he wasn’t going to complain…if anything, maybe he could use this in his favor?

“Anything else?” Call him opportunistic, but if the warrior was already helping, this could be a golden opportunity that he wasn’t going to let slip through his claws. Most kits would’ve opted to return to the nursery with their tail between their legs after being caught, maybe even feeling some form of guilt or embarrassment, but he was not like the rest of the kits.

Snowpaw emerged from the shadows and stood next to Deerleap. “That was a good first try,” she mewed. “Just remember that danger can lurk around any corner. It’s all too easy to get so caught up in checking the borders for enemy cats that you forget to watch your pawsteps for a sharp rock or a root to trip you up.”

Deerleap nodded to Snowpaw. what she said has sense, but a few gaps too. she didn't want to make it obvious that she was helping the kit escape from camp. instead, she got into a crouch and snuck up behind one of the cats near the camp entrance. "Surprise!" she purred as she leaped onto the cat. hopefully, Frigidkit would copy her stance and take the opportunity while she distracted the warriors.
