Was that brief encounter all she'd be able to remember last of Mintpaw?

Hollyleaf had tried to keep her composure ever since their sudden disappearance. Swanmist's and the apprentice's scent was starting to fade, and even if she'd been lucky enough to catch on their trace— the smell would soon vanish yet again, replaced by a familiar scent regularly marked by the border patrol groups. The news troubled her, though she wasn't ever troubled as much. Was it because she was uncertain of their safety? Ebonyhaze and Cloverheart was also gone, although it was only temporary. Or at least, she hoped it'll be temporary. Something in her told so, yet she grew uncertain of where Mintpaw was. Her apprentice.. where was she now? How was she doing?

Despite their little time together, the warrior had soon grew attached to the young molly. Maybe it was from their alikeness of personalities. Suddenly, a splash caught her attention. A fin and a tail— sticking out of water for a heartbeat. Her eyes widened, and Hollyleaf soon snapped out of her thoughts. Like many times before, she crouched, creeping up to the water... then lunged for it. Unexpectedly, she slipped and missed her prey. Her claws were unsheathed as she held onto the surface beneath the snow. She'd nearly fallen down the river just a moment ago, and she could hear her blood pulsing in her ears. That was.. close. Determined, she'd try again, though.

Perhaps she needed to try something else. A land prey, maybe. If she couldn't show Mintpaw, it'd be best she tries on her own. She didn't want Beaverpaw to have a possibility of not knowing how to catch land prey, either. And so, with slight hesitation, Hollyleaf turned herself towards the bushes and trees instead. Critters usually hid their, didn't they? A small movement in a bush caught her eye— and she perked her ears, dropping down to a crouch once again. This time.. more cautiously. She needed to bring back something for the clan, right? And so, she waited... then pounced.

Only this time, it was something unexpected.

Within just a split second, the molly heard an abrupt hiss, and with that came burning pain from her left shoulder. She gritted her teeth, claws unsheathed and ready to battle. Hollyleaf slashed the creature with her claws, flinging it over to a further distance. She gave a quick lick to her shoulder. Oh, how it stung.. but she needed to focus on something else, now.

Caught off guard, the snake gave another hiss, only this time slightly weaker than before. Though before it could've reacted again, she lunged for the critter, finishing it with a quick bite. It squirmed under her grip for a moment.. then fell limp, unable to find the strength to move again.

Just as quickly as it went, the fight ended with the creature in her mouth. Would the clan be able to eat this? That was an odd thought to occur in her mind, although she disliked the thought of bringing back no prey. Well... something, though strange, was better than nothing, she supposed. With the snake in her jaws, Hollyleaf began to make her way back to camp. She probably shouldn't leave the new injury alone.. well, maybe she'd grab some marigold and cobwebs later on. That was all she knew of herbs, for now.
