Her wet paw was starting to get cold because of the semi-iced river but the apprentice didn't complain. It was part of the Riverclan lifestyle to get your fur wet. She shove most of the water with a rough shook of her paw and looked back at her mentor, ready to continue trying. Tinypaw nodded effusively at her words, hoping that she would catch something soon.

The young she-cat watched hopefully at her mentor's second attempt but, yet again, no fish was on sight. It must be the harsh season... That would explain why the fresh-kill pile has been low these past few days... She thought to herself, not really blaming Perchfall for her failed attempts. Prey was scarce and the snow and ice filling the river didn't help either.

"That sounds like a good plan." The she-cat purred, once again laying down on the beach and waiting for any unusual movement... Unexpectedly she caught a grey thing on the surface up current, approaching quickly with the rushing river. That's it! With her tail low but moving from one side to another, expectantly, the she-cat waited for the moment the fish would be on her reach. When the animal was in front of her, she extended her paws and hit the water. A grey-green fish of medium size flew out of the water to the beach. Tinypaw could not believe herself and it took a second to realize to had to end the hunt. The small apprentice launched herself to the perch and sunk her fangs on it until it stopped its trashing. Ironically, it turned out to be a perch. With a wide smile on her face, the dark she-cat turned her body to her mentor: "I didthw ift!" She mewed with the perch still on her jaws.

Tinypaw attempted to catch a fish, using 7 SP. Catch was succesful.

There was little to no hope in Perchfall as she encouraged the apprentice to take her next turn, but a sort of stubbornness nailed her paws to the frosty ground. I'm not going to fail as a mentor. I'll teach her how to fish, or stay here all day trying. It didn't even occur to her that the frigid, harsh circumstances were not her fault. She would certainly blame herself if they didn't succeed in catching at least one fish. At Tinypaw's optimism, however, they both turned their attention back to the icy, overflowing river. Another try.... The deputy could hardly believe her eyes when, against all odds, the small apprentice darted a paw in and came out with a fish. A fairly large perch flew out of the rushing water, flopping all over the ground until Tinypaw thought faster and ended its life with a snap of her teeth.

Though her expression did not change much, the awe likely showed in the slight widening of Perchfall's blue eyes as they took in the sight. She did it! She caught the fish! When she finally mustered up the courage to speak, she had less control over her voice than normal. The flat, neutral tone was still there, but a slight warble of warmth underlaid the words. It sounded slightly off, which is probably why she tried so hard not to do it... but it was obvious that the deputy meant what she said. "I'm proud of you, Tinypaw. Good work."
